Hello

Are there any actual 5 round sks magazines out there??
Ones that are built to hold only 5 rounds and not pinned or altered in any way??

From first glance it looks like there are mags like this available....a norinco one that sits flush with the stock and another brand(unsure of name) but sometimes its hard to tell by looking at photos

Was looking for confirmation before I start digging too much and getting my hopes up

I purchased 10 ProMag 5rds magazines from Tenda for my Tapco stock SKS's. They work very well. However, I guess they do not fit a regular wooden stock SKS?

With any of the external mags you have to either sand them or the stock. Or do you mean it wont seat all the way?

I've got several of the promag duckbill mags. All have fix very easily without modding. That being said I did sand down the rear catch to make them easier to insert/remove as the factory mag release spring is a bit stiff on my SKS. I figured it would be easier to mod the mag rather than cutting coils off of the spring. I also filed a notch into the rear of the feed lips to better fit stripper clips so the round strip out and into the mag easier. You also cannot insert or remove those mags with the bolt closed unless you have a modded bolt to be shaped like the bolt from an SKS-D.

Kaboose - BullseyeNorth has sear springs from MCarbo for sks for $25. I've used them since 2015. The "Heavy" spring is for OEM magazines and the light one for Tapco and others. They send you both springs. The Light one will cause the OEM mag to 'fall open' when you fire (been there) but it's plenty strong for holding the duckbills. Makes mag release very easy - I'm using it on my '51 Tula in Tapco.

Also, you can 'drill & pin' the OEM mag closed using a small screw then grind off a bit of the 'back end' to make it a removable mag, too. I had to grind about 1/8" off the 'follower pin' to let it be inserted w/o the bolt open.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to check them out :d
