Newbie question - field vs clay

I was trying to find an answer in the forum to no avail.
So, here is my question: I have seen on Wholesale Sports website two Weatherby shotguns that I would like, one clay and one filed; can I buy and use only one of them for both activities, saving some money ?
They seem pretty similar, at least for me.
What is the difference in requirements for field and clays ?

Field and Clays

Basically a field gun is lighter to carry. It usually has shorter barrels. A clay gun might have 250 rounds put through it on an easy day. A field gun usually has fewer rounds put through it. Clay guns are very well built. Field guns can be cheap.

Mosteaka, they are basically the same shotgun with minor differences. For your extra $100, the clays model gives you the choice of 28 or 30 inch barrels (vs. 26 or 28 on the field model), a mid rib bead and skeet 1 and 2 chokes in addition to the F/M/IC tubes. The chokes might be worth the extra $$ over the field model, but I would compare both models closely with a Fabarm H38 Lion Hunter before I laid out any cash.

Chances are if the guns are weatherby's they will both be built to identical specs but with the clay gun having longer barrel.I would get the field cause it's easier to shoot a field gun on clays than dragging a clay gun through the hill or into a marsh.

I was looking at both shotguns on 28 " barrels, about one hundred difference with some extra chokes for sporting clays one. Other than that they seem to be quite the same.

I will have a look on Fabarm H38 Lion Hunter too, thanks Sharptail.
