Newbie question on rings

What are the uses of each size of rings...ie low medium and high?

I have a remington 700 VLS with a 3.5-10x40mm scope.
what hieght rings are recomended?

Im new to optics so I don't know my a$$ from my elbow.

The different heights are used to keep the objective off the barrel.

You should be OK with low rings with that combination..

ya, the bigger the objective bell the higher your rings may need to be. Otherwise your scope touches the rifle and may not sit correctly level.

40mm should get by with medium height, sometimes even lows
