Hello boys and girls.....I was one of the fortunate ones whom managed to acquire one of the CMMG rifles that Questar had on deal. Now being the newbie doobie doo that I am im here for some furniture advice. I got the one that has the pencil barrel and im wanting to update the furniture to a more snazzier look. ie... the handguard that have the rails on them. Do I need to measure them when i get the rifle or can i just buy one for a CAR? Im assuming CAR means carbine?

If the rifle you got has a carbine length gas system and a fixed front sight then you can fit a 7" rail without modification. Personally, I like the look of longer rails. If you wanted to you could cut down the front sight or install a low profile gas block to install a longer rail.

Here's a picture of my RRA with a 10.5" barrel and a 10" Troy rail.

Here's a picture of my Stag with a 16" barrel and a 7" Samson quad rail.

Now that I have the short barreled 9mm I kind of regret swapping the 16" upper with Arms East for the 12.5" upper so don't be too quick to go to a shorter barrel. If I still had the 16" I would probably cut down the front sight and install a 12" rail.
 
So cutting down the front sight isnt a major issue? Cause im kinda liking the folding sights that Magpul has out. Granted im still going to go with an Eotech as i totally love shooting with BOTH eyes open.
