When dies are advertised as 2 die set,or a 3 die set,what function or step are you getting with the 3 vs. the 2 dies?

2 die set equals a Full length re-sizer and a Bullet seating die
3 dies set is both of the above along with a Neck size only die

If its a Lee die set the third die could also be a factory crimp die, depending on the set. If you are referring to pistol dies instead of rifle dies, I think the 3rd die is a crimp die as well, but I only load for rifles, so I'm not positive on that.

Three die sets are usually offered with str. wall cases.....they are a size/deprime die, a bullet seating die, an expand/bell die (especially useful for seating cast bullets)

Very generally speaking, 3 die sets are for handgun rounds. Two die sets are for bottle necked rifle rounds.
