Newbie Reloader! Where can I get Bullets and Federal Primers, cheap?

I have already heard that there is a shortage of small pistol Primers, but Illl ask anyway. Also, Where do I buy .40S&W bullets? I have been looking for prices and found afew, but not many. Where is the best buys right now? For both of course.

Ask any dealer when you will get small pistol primers. The answer is always 6 months from now. They were saying January/February for the longest time. I ask now and it's sometime in the spring. F ck em the shows are the only place I see any and they are gone quick.

The only response we can offer right now, and for the past year or so would be....and you can quote me on this....."BRAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!! BAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!!!!"

Seriously......Wholesale Sports is rationing primers when they have any at all. 1000/customer. It's been reported that some gun shops are rationing at 300/person when they have any at all. I've seen prices reported at $65.99/1000 but most are in the $40.00/1000 range when/if you can find them. Some people are saying that they're not really having a problem finding them, but most are on the other side of the fence. Try P&D here in Edmonton. They're a site sponsor, and I've had pretty good luck there.

I have a large stockpile of Federal small pistol primers.....if anyone here happens to have any Federal 150 large pistol primers, I'll swap even-steven and cover shipping both ways. I'd be looking for at leat 5000.
 
NoSaleSports in Toon was limiting primer sales to 500/day per person.
Last time I was in NOT buying bullets I heard a guy complaining because he had to stop in after work every day...
wah...
drive 3 hours for nothing then you can whine!
 
I wouldn't be too picky about what brand of primers you can get given the current situation. In a pinch, you can use small rifle primers, so long as you do the re-do load development, as they are hotter than pistol primers.

Hmmmmm , I guess it just depends on who you know , I just bought 10 boxes (1000 to a box) there yesterday :eek: The reason for the WSS ration is that a bunch of americans were going to come over and clean us out and take them back to the US (this is what I was told by WSS) If you talk nice you can get more , also just bought a case of small pistol and small rifle for a friend. Had no trouble getting it. I haven't found any shortage yet , first i've heard of it .

I generally feel the same way but....my IPSC revolver hammer spring is so light the only primers it will set off reliably are the Federals... :(
 
I also like Federal primers for my MD Charlton tuned K-38, but I find that any store in Calgary almost never has Federal primers in stock. With other primers, it will have maybe two light strikes in 100 shots.

In the meanwhile, I can make do with CCI or Winchester primers by sticking a fired primer cup under the strain screw, although it does make for a heavier trigger.
 
I hope Lebaron restocks soon. I bought 10k of CCI small pistol for ~28 plus taxes per 1k box. That was in late summer I think. I have about 5k left. I need more. Out of almost 5k fired, i only had one bad primer.
