newbie reloading question for 223 Rem

I am trying to reload 223 ammo. I am using the lyman reloading handbook and it is using remington 7 1/2 small rifle primer as the test component. The book however recommand to use the exact components listed in the reloading data since it states the the use of different primer will change the ballistic of the load. However I am not able to find the remington primer in Canada. Can I actually use the CCI 400 primer or Federal 205 instead? How much risk does it involve if I just use other primer and follow the rest of the data. It is my first time to reload 223, so please help. Thanks a lot!
 
If you start from the starting loads listed and work up it doesn't matter what primer you are using - the CCI primers will be fine.

Some guys avoid the use of Federal primers in semi autos since they are softer primers, and thus more easily set off - which increases the risk of a slam fire.
 
Just start out below max and work your way up, watching for signs of over pressure. If you have a chronograph, watch the velocity, and see how the various loads group. I'm sure you can do fine with another primer, but you just can't take a single stated load as gospel unless everything you do is exactly the same.
 
Do not even think about starting to reload without first learning how to identify the common signs of excess pressure. Your safety depends on you being able to identify symptoms of excessive pressure.

Ditto for this. Have you read a decent reloading manual yet? If not, get one and read it cover to cover. The ABCs of Reloading is a good choice.

I have always used CCI in my reloads for my AR for this exact reason. I've noticed the other brands would have a small indentation on them after the bolt on my AR would be released and allowed to go into battery. Same thing for a 2 other friends. Switched to CCI and never saw that indentation and never had a problem
