go easy on me i am very new at reloading and have 2 questions,

1- is it possible to seat a bullet to low in the case as i have measured i am with in the max col my dummy round in the same length will feed into my new cz 550 FS 308 but it seems there is a little resistance did i do something wrong i am using norma brass 150 grain nosler and 40 grains of win 760
my case over all length is 2.001 and a complete bullet in this batch is 2.652

please tell me if everything is ok the rifle is brand new and the bore still needs to be worked in properly i dont want to wreck my new rifle or worse any advise would be greatly apreciated

Neil

By resistance do you mean when closing the bolt handle? I had this and you may need to turn your FL sizeing die down 1/8 to 1/4 turn to give you some more headspace. If your norma brass is spanking new you may have your seating die down a wee bit to much. If the shell shoulder touches the seating die it will expand the case and make it tight. I put a empty case in the press and send it to the top of travel. I will then back the seater out of the seating die and then turn the die down in the press till you feel it touch the case then back it out a turn or two.
Hope I helped.

Neil it sounds like everything is in spec as far as case length and OAL of your load.
Using 40 grains of 760 behind a 150 grain bullet is a pretty mild load so should be no trouble there.
If you are feeling resistance chambering the round the first thing I would check is if your seating die was adjusted properly.
Its possible to "roll" or crush the shoulder of your case when seating a bullet if the die isnt set properly.

I've seen plenty of first effort loads that guys cant chamber in their bolt guns because although they did everything else right they got in a rush when it came to that final step.

A quote: "Its possible to "roll" or crush the shoulder of your case when seating a bullet if the die isnt set properly."

It amounts to "over crimping," and I consider it the most common cause of handloaded cartridges being hard to chamber.

What are the metric length measurements for 308? Is it as simple as converting on a calculator or is there something else I need to know.
