newbie scope set up (plz help!)

I bought a Weaver K4 from another CGN member and installed it on my Parker-Hale No4 Standard using a no drill type mount utilizing the rear sight mount holes and charger bridge. I have some questions about how to properly set it up now. How tight do I do up the set screws on the mount and rings, and should I use loktite on any of these components? Also is there any way to change the distance my eye has to be from the rear lens to get things in focus? Also a real newb question but your vertical adjuster goes on top and horizontal on the side correct?

You can use blue (medium) loktite on screws for the mounts, but don't bother on the screws to mount the scope. I'll put a drop on one screw, then rub the threads of a second screw around the first. You don't need much and you don't want any dripping inside the firearm. Tighten the screws 15 to 18 inch pounds (think beer cap tight or so).

Most often, vertical adjustment in on top and horizontal is on the right. Some people will mount their scope rotated 90 degrees, so windage and elevation turrets switch roles. Depends on the reticle, preference, and whether or not it has side focus. You can't really change the eye relief of the scope, just move it forward or backward to suit. The height of the rings can make a difference, too. And sometimes reversing the mount can make a difference.

If the rings have 2 screws per, then tighten them about the same as the mounts. If they have 4 screws per, then go a bit less (12 inch pounds). Go slow and alternate, checking for crosshair level often. They will move. Some people are fanatical about getting the crosshairs level. I sight in on something known level, like the sill plate at the far end of the basement.
