Newbie: Slide side to side play?

Hi all,

I just purchased my very first firearm: the gorgeous CZ 75B SS in matte finish! I can't wait to shoot her!

I'm a total newb and don't know too much about pistols in general yet but upon inspecting her I noticed some slight side to side play of the slide - is this normal? What's an acceptable amount of play? Maybe I'm worrying over nothing but I've lusted after her for so long and am stoked to finally have her in-hand...just want to make sure she's all good =)

The only gun you'll ever find with absolutely no tolerances, is one that's been welded dewat. Generally, the more mechanical tolerance, the more reliability. Shoot your gun, then decide it if it's a problem.
 
Once your gun is in battery(ready to fire) there should be no play of the barrel inside the slide. If the muzzle is loose the accuracy will be lousy. If the whole barrel moves back and forth there is a loose breech and your gun will not last very long. So make sure that the barrel is rock solid in the slide when ready to fire.

I don't say that slide to frame fit is not important. It is but it isn't critical. Only top end and custom made guns do not have a noticeable play. Your CZ is a good quality gun and this play is not excessive for sure. There is some adveatage of this play however. Loose guns are less effected by dirt and tend to be more reliable. AK-47 is a prime example here. So don't worry just shoot it and enjoy it.

A little side to side play in a semi-auto slide is nothing to sweat about....;)

Some play in the slide-to-frame fit is normal. A loose slide-to-frame fit has very little impact in accuracy compared to the fit of the barrel to the slide. Very tight tolerance in this area can compromise the gun's ability to run reliably when dirty.

if u mean slide play as in it moves back and forth, it is completely normal. i guess as the recoil spring gets broken in it becomes more and more loose.

adjacent side to side looseness is normal too, given that it isn't too loose. i notice that most polymer pistols have this and it is complete normal. metal to metal pistols are alot less but still normal to have. i also read or heard somewhere that as the pistol becomes heated from repeated use it should loosen up abit, i guess thats what they call "breaking in."

however, when i handled a new cz 75 (non polymer), that pistol was very tight, no side to side slide looseness/movement and no front to back slide movement (very stiff as hell). the new pistol was so stiff the first time i tried to pull the slide back i failed.

a little looseness/movement shouldn't matter tho i dont think. like someone else here said, u have to shoot and see for yourself.
