Newbie to m14s -? On exposed barrel thread

Hi guys, just received my first DA M14s, barrel marked SOCOM 18 and unpacked it this afternoon, it was dripping in so much oil the packing box was oozing oil! Any way when I stared to clean it, I noticed the the barrel tread exposed at the gas block, I thought the gas lock was missing but it's not. is this considered "normal" Chinese manufacture ? Is this a safety issue when fired? Thx for any advice u can give me.

Try posting this in the Main Battle Rifles forum. You will get more help there. Also, try and post some pics.
