Im a new shooter and have recently joined a club very big into IDPA and IPSC its the East Elgin Sportsman Association. I currently own a Sig Sauer P226 but was told this is a heavy gun, and not modifiable to add a red dot sight and of course no flared mag. I'm very interested in not only finding a great first ipsc pistol, but also a place to purchase it, preferably somewhere I wont get "had" lol. Any info would be very much appreciated. And I know very little about guns so the more explanation and information the better.

Take your Black Badge course using your P226. Shoot a bunch of matches in production division (IPSC). You also need a competition belt, holster, mag pouches, and four-five magazines. Practice. The rest will come later.

Oh yes welcome to the dark side, have a cookie.

x2 , try it with what you have , look , watch and listen then make your own decesion on which way you want to go ! What you have will be fine it is a good solid gun , you can dump all your cash later !

I'd shoot the p226 (in fact i plan to). I know a couple guys that shoot it. It may not be able to be modified for open but if your looking to buy a race gun your can expect to pay $3-6000 for a race gun. one. Sig does make a race gun called the X5 and a custom X6 in the p226 style. The cheapest is the X5 allround which will start you in the $1800 range but works for production and comes with an enlarged magwell. If i were you shoot what you have in production or standard. Work up from there.

Thanks everyone for your info. I think perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself now I guess the next question is where can I find a holster for a 10year old Sig and mag pouches.

See the site sponsors at the top of the page. CRAFM, DoubleTap, Daves Surplus & Tactical, Freedom Ventures just to name four off the top of my head. Also check out the EE here on CGN (equipment exchange) for used stuff.
