Please note, I have little real fire arms knowledge or background including terminology except for what little I've learned from playing airsoft.

I'm only considering applying for my RPAL around the summer so I haven't confirmed or committed to anything till I do more research and organize my finances so for now, I'll stick questions.

I live in Toronto near downtown. TTC (public transit) is my primary mode of transportation and I don't have my full drives license (something else I'll be dealing with this summer) but even then, I don't have my own car.

Questions:
1) I've looked through the sticky "List of Gun Clubs in Canada" but noticed it was last updated over 3 years ago and even then, only found a few handful of clubs in the 416 area. How many of them offer the safety and training course for my RPAL and what are your opinions on them?

2) Pending completion and passing, how long is the process for an RPAL vs a PAL from filling out my application to my license in my mailbox?

3) I know I can not transport firearms to a range with public transit but do taxis have a policy for or against? And if push comes to shove, how much do clubs charge for weapon storage or is the fee included with membership?

I'll probably have more questions upcoming, guess I'll start with these and pop them here if I can not find the answers. Sorry if my questions may seem newbish in nature, my family are very anti-gun.

Hi. You over 18 and living in your parents house? Your ma and pa have the say about you having firearms in their house. There's no way around it either. Mind you, when I was new, my ma said no. That became firearms are ok, but no ammo. I ignored her. Especially when I bought the reloading stuff. Easier to do in those days.
"...don't have my own car..." Indespensible money pits.
"...have little real fire arms knowledge..." Get the course manuals(free .pdf's on the fseso.org site, link below) and read 'em. Hit your local library and read every firearms related book they have. There are lots of 'em in the library.
You have to do the PAL as well. Do 'em both at the same time. Max fee is $220 for both and both tests. Not every instructor charges that much though. Go here for a list of instructors. http://www.fseso.org/
"...in Toronto near downtown..." Which end? East, West, etc. There are clubs shooting in every range each night of the week. Pick a week night and go visit some clubs. Not a bad idea to contact 'em first though.
"...clubs charge for weapon storage..." They don't and won't store your property. Legal and liability issues. Some clubs have PAL/RPAL instructors as members, but not all. Ontario's CPFO required the clubs to put you through a club safety course too. Even after doing the PAL and RPAL courses. Some charge for it. Avoid those clubs.
You'll need eye and hearing protection not matter where you end up, as well. Neither has to be expensive. Both can be found in Crappy Tire for not a big pile of money. $20ish.
"...can not transport firearms to a range with public transit..." I have, but not recently. Your firearms will be in a case. A case doesn't have to look like a gun case. Used a regular brief case for a while myself. Taxis will get expensive quickly. In all likelihood, once you've joined a club, other members will very likely give you a lift, in both directions. Most shooters are like that. Ready to help a new shooter, including letting you try their firearms.

That is why I'm researching before I commit, currently nothing is written in stone.

I live north west of downtown but not very far, I can literally be within the city core in 15-20mins through regular downtown traffic. When I first started looking into clubs, I found a place called Terra Nova Armory which didn't seem to be on the list of clubs/ranges here. I contacted them via email and they ended up calling me (which I missed and have yet to respond). Anyone have opinions of this place? No address was given on their website.

I'll contact the TTC about their policy on traveling with a firearm, I do have occasional access to a vehicle but I want to cover all my options so I don't potentially get in trouble.
