Newbies AR buffer spring question

What you can try is to very lightly grease the spring and inside the buffer tube to see if that will quiet it down somewhat. The dry spring dragging across the inside of the dry buffer tube is contributing to the noise and light greasing will help that.

I use a light lithium white grease.

Grease works, although I'm not really bothered by it. The change in the "TWANG" tells my when the bolt locks back if I I lose count during a stage.

What you are hearing are two independent sounds.
1. The friction of the spring on the inside of the buffer tube.
2. The harmonic resonance of the spring vibrating when you close the bolt.

A light coating of thin grease on the spring eliminates the rubbing sound on cycling and will virtually eliminate the harmonics since the greased spring is now making lubricity contact to the buffer tube. You will still get some feedback when the bolt locks open on an empty mag due to inertia. Oil will only work to reduce the friction but not the harmonics. I would assume white lithium is thin enough, I used Slick Honey grease which is a suspension grease and very thin but not liquid, completely eliminated the twang and now the charging handle feels like it is on glass. No issues with rapid cycling either.

They just came out with all the different buffer weights. H1, H2 and H3.
