Well, that was a lot of fun.

Received my ATT yesterday and took my brand new CZ75 in 9 mm. to the range today. Have never fired a pistol before.

Had the range to myself which was nice. Affixed the target, stood back about 16 or 17 feet and unloaded my very first mag. Wow. Did better than I expected. First shot was about 1/2 inch off at 11:00 o'clock. One shot was a "flyer" at 3 and 1/2 inches off at 12:00 o'clock. Except for one shot at 1 and 1/2 inches off at 1:00 o'clock, the rest were clumped about, anywhere from 1/4 inch off to 2 and 1/4 inches off, at 11:00 o'clock. I was so pleased I brought this target home. Its a keeper.

After that, I just experimented, shooting one-handed and from various distances. Found out that it is very hard to hit the target at 50 yards.

Recoil felt ok. Perhaps the heavier all steel gun is an advantage in this regard, but who knows. Certainly not me.

Got better at refilling mags as the morning wore on. Springy little bastards aren't they.

One think I noticed and this is my story so I am sticking to it: I was shooting under the bright sunshine and at times had some trouble picking up my sights. This is my excuse anyway. If any one has a better excuse, please let me know.

Anyway, had a good time. Look forward to going lots in the future.

Are you saying your instruction was all theoretical?

After today you can see that Hollywood 'exagerates' a little. :)

Well done! I will assume that you use factory ammo at this point and I think the score is quite good. The first time I shot my 75B with Win Clean and is all over the place at 12 Yards. Now I reload with 4.1 gr Universal and 124gr copper plate, OAL 1.150" and get very consistent group. Some said that 147 gr copper plate better, I haven't try yet.

I have been shooting handguns for 15 years and I still hate the bright sunlight. A ball cap and sunglasses help.

The best advice ever given to me in regards to pistol shooting was : take a lesson. Man 'o' man a slight change in grip can make a world of difference. As can stance, trigger control, blah blah blah... Seriously though an hour of instruction by a good shooter WHO CAN TEACH will save you frustration and a ton of $$$ in wasted ammo. Then you can show new people and so on and so on...My male buddies who have never shot pistols usually can't hit the cardboard let alone the target at 10-25m. To much TV/Movies/Rap videos...The females ask and listen then dominate on the first sessions every time.

This advice applies to every sport IMHO...why 'hack' around when a pro can get you on the right track in a very short time. There is no shame in asking questions and learning.

Very true, most of the time watch how the other people shoot is not good enough, must ask them how to do this and how to do that.

Not to hijack this thread, but my CZ85 does not like winclean either. I don't reload 9mm yet, but am looking around for 'good' factory performers.

This is how it begins.
Soon enough you'll be asking for "practice ammo" in stores you never intended to buy anything......

Nice done!

I know someone with a Baby Eagle and it will sometimes not lock open with WinClean.

I also had a pistol which would do the same with WinClean - It's like it is missing the "Oooomph" to do the job properly :)
