newby scope eye alignment question

Hi all,
I am brand new to using scopes and I wonder how you manage to look through the scope consistantly
enough from one shot to the next to hit the same place every time. I notice I can change the line up by moving my head while pointing at a spot.
Does it all depend on the cheek weld or is there something else to know?

well the cheek weld and other tools can help but for less precision shooting just put your head in its natural comfortable position think about it as little as possible and your head will naturally go into the same position every time. even if your head is in a slightly different position it'll only move the point of impact about an inch max at 100m so you'll still hit the target as for groupings who cares about hitting bulls eye just dont move your head / change your overall position as moving your head is some times necessary. just do what feels natural and comfortable and your head will naturally go to the same spot thats the key. another way to help retake the same spot some guys will put an elastic band or something similar that they can always feel in the same spot on there cheek
 
cheek weld is the critical component here, don't gain or lose weight as it will affect cheek weld. biathletes pay thousands of dollars for stocks they can adjust so they get the cheek weld perfect. IT cannot be overstated the importance of a proper cheek weld. nothing, I mean nothing produces the consistency of a consistent cheek weld. The scope and rifle don't move, only your head on the rifle stock moves, once it always lands in the same spot your are golden. that is why red dots are becoming so popular as the completely remove the need for a consistent cheek weld

No, you have to line the cross hairs up with the target and adjust the stock from there. you would go nuts using a scope with two reticles trying to put them on target.

What your experiencing is called parallax , its when the target and x-hairs aren't on the same focal plane. You need to get rid of this with setting up your scope properly it no amount of "proper" cheek weld will fix the issue
 
Most 'hunting scopes' are intended to be 'parallax free' at a certain distance. Usually 100 yards. Essentially, 'parallax free' means it's perfectly 'focused' at that distance.

AO or Adjustable Objective scopes can be 'focused' at a certain range, similar to binoculars.

As noted, cheekweld is very important. One of the most frustrating things for a shooter (especially a new shooter) is where you can't get a 'complete circle' when looking through the scope - I find cheekweld to be a bigger factor in this than eye relief.
 
Right now when I shoulder it and put my cheek on it where It feels right, I see black in the scope and have to lift my head to get the circle. The back of my face still touching but feels un anchored.
Does anyone sell some kind of leather cheek peice for this purpose?
 
Sounds like you have too high of scope rings. If your head is comfortable against the stock and everytime you need to lift your head to see through the scope...the scope is mounted too high. Can you post a pic of the gun you speak of???

I guess its not as bad as I thought but the 22 in the pic with the fugly
stock sure is more positive to position.
