i'd like info about shotguns in general. i.m fairly new and don'T have a lot of knowledge aside military arms. so when i get my PAL i know i want a shotgun , ideally it would ba a M4 benelli but until i get the money i'm going to setlle for something less.

here's the question.

what would be a good shotgun for the beginner, price/reliability wise?

the only thing that i know i DON'T want is an hinge/break action shotgun, but aside of that i'm pretty open minded.

any suggestions?

An Remington 870 or a mossberg 500/590 are pretty much the standard first shotgun. Lots of info and aftermarket support for them and both have proven to be very reliable units.

a remington 870 magnum. new or used. but if you go used just make sure its magnum that takes the 3" shells.

Mossberg 590A1 but you really have not stated your intended purpose for this acquisition?

I gotta second the 590A1 if you can find one. I've had every design pretty much and the Mossy is the best bang for the buck as it can do it all (competitive advantages).

Norc copy of 870 vs Remy 870 is pretty good, depending on what you pay for either. I'd buy a used shotgun regardless, save a few bucks for ammo and more toys.

I'm going to suggest a break action shotgun just because you said not to. What isn’t cool about a Stoeger Coach Gun? It’s like old west style tactical.

Now on a more serious note, I would suggest either the Mossberg 500 or Reminton 870. Both are fine shotguns. Even the Maverick 88 is ok.

I got one Browning Semi Auto shotgun sitting in my safe collecting dust . I shot it few times and was working fine last time I shot it about four year before . I am in Surrey and If you are close by , come on and have a look and if you like it take it as a gift .

oh! i guess you're right, its mostly for shooting clays, targets and on the range, i don't have hunting license yet, i'm gonna get to it once i get my things together.

i tried a hinge action once, with one of my friend who has his license. a russian ''kabal''( or something similar), it IS fun to shoot with, but i didn'T like the flow of how you have to open the shotgun every 2 shots. kind of ''break'' the flow for the lack of a better term lol

Mossberg 930 "poor mans Benelli M4" that way you can get use the controls, as there almost the same as the Benelli
