thought I would share my personal experience with you on a product I bought a few months ago ..the lrb 3000 range finder made by newcon optik .First let me mention that I did purchase this lrf used from another forum.the previous owner did purchased it 5 years earlier brand new. I tried looking up reviews online but did not found much other than some mix reviews on their low end lrf ,I must say I was abit worried about what I would get in exchange of my hardly earned money but still I gave it a try ...
first time I got to try the unit,it did perform as promised ...easy to range off hand up to 1600m and got some reading on poor reflecting targets (i.e. threes)up to 2000m from the tripod..unfortunately I did not find any other good reflective targets past 2100m that day .
I must say I was already pleased with the product ...then the "event" happened .on my second outing with the range finder I (still banging my head on the wall) left the lrf on the front bumper of my 2008 lifted jeep rubicon 4 doors.the lrf did perform pretty well in the wind and probably did look really appealing sitting on the front bumper until it went under the truck...long story short ,I ran over it with the jeep..
at this point the unit was still working but only up to 200m ..
I then contacted their office in Toronto as to know if anything could be done or else I was doomed for another two years of saving $$..after explaining my misfortunate situation,they offered me to send in the range finder for an inspection even if it was a unit that was purchased second hand and no longer under warranty!!
obviously I would have to pay for the repair but still I must say I was happy to see that they would take the time to help me out.A diode was burnt (probably was before the "event") and an overall refurbishing was performed ..in the end for a really small fraction of their value ,my unit was back operative and better than ever..tested up to 2650m.
my two cents on this company is that they stand behind their products which are build like tanks!! not many lrf are jeep proof like that.with the terrapin being impossible to find now days ,I must say that these are probably the very next best thing performance/value $$ wise.
