My son gave me a Russian 1952 SKS for Father's day and I picked it up yesterday. Spent 60 min tearing it down and cleaning all the cosmoline off of it. I love how the whole gun disassembles without tools. I can't wait to hit the range and play with this puppy. So cool having a rifle that has a bayonet

Welcome to the club! The SKS was the rifle my wife had to have as her first and she loves the thing to death.

I'm rather fond of it as well, even if it is bloody loud and bounces casings off the firing line roof.

What is the easiest method to increase the length of the stock?

Is there a really long butt-pad specifically made for the SKS?

I'd probably buy a SKS rifle tomorrow. But the ones I have tried are all way too short.

How about taking off the buttplate, tracing the outline onto plywood, laminate for whatever thickness is needed(drilling hole for cleaning kit opening), paint edges black, glue and/or screw on(coutersink screws making sure they don't align with buttplate screws) and replacing buttplate. There may be some minor gaps but an SKS isn't all about looks.

So I got out to the range yesterday and absolutely love the SKS. Shot all the ammo I had. Now I know why you buy it by the case. Had a blast, wish I had one ages ago.
