Not sure if this is the proper forum for this. Recently acquired this Lee Enfield from a friend. It was apparently passed down in the family. Any info is appreciated as I know nothing about them. Will add more pics later.

What you have is a sportered Lee-Enfield that has most likely seen war service. It's been made by Enfield in the UK in 1908, as the stamps show.

It doesn't appear to have the magazine cutoff, it may have been removed during the sporterization process. The receiver was made fairly early in the manufacture of the Lee-Enfield No1 MkIII - as I think the British adopted it in 1907.

I'm sure a real expert like louthepou or 5THBATT will chime in shortly.......

Too bad it was sported, as well as being altered, probably while in service. Original and intact, it would have had serious value. Survival rate of pre WWI Lee Enfields is low. Restoring it to original configuration would be a challenging project.

This one is begging for restoration!

Correct repro forend is only available from "EFD Rifles" (I think); then, you need the proper volley sights, mag cut-off, and proper windage-adjustable rear sight. I think these are the main things, anyways... Sure there are some other minor bits needed for proper resto work,

Lou
