So I'm a neophyte but I'm working hard to learn as much as I can about the subject, and I love it!

I recently bought a nice LB 1942 No4Mk1* from a fellow CGNer and I have a couple of questions...

First, here it is:

Then, one thing comes to my mind that I had not seen in the seller's picture (even if it was obvious), it has no sling!

Now, considering that I like the fact that it is genuine and that I don't want to alter it in any way, I think that it would be better if the sling that I buy is period correct and original too...

But... oh! There is no where I can attach that sling! No swivels?

Now I need your help... What should I look for?

Here is where the front swivel should be:

And here is where the rear swivel should be:

Is this what I should buy to replace the rear assembly?
Rear sling swivel and screw set

Or maybe this simple sling clip would work well?

Also, can someone tell me what is this little hook in front of the mag for?

Thank you very much!!!

Be indulgent if I ever said something stupid, I'm a newbie!

You should be able to get swivels from Marstar and the clip on the trigger guard is to attach a canvas action cover.

Nice #4! If you go to the WTS Militaria section of the EE, you should be able to find a proper canvas sling. Also, you could place a WTB ad in the Exchange of parts for Milsurps for those swivels.

First thing I had to do was google 'neophyte'. Welcome to the religion.

X2 for putting an WTB ad in the EE for the sling and the swivels. I got an excellent sling for $12 bucks shipped. Not sure what swivels go for.

Excellent start with a LB Enfield No. 4. It's one I still need for my collection. From your picture I can tell you will need more gunsmithing tools and more ammo cans (full ones).

What tools are you talking about? I'm curious... And for the ammo cans, it's pretty expensive:eek: I went to Can Tire... yesterday and the pack of 20 is 28.99$ for the Winchester Power Point! (Probably that this store isn't a good reference) At that price, I wont pack as much as my surplus 7.62 X 54R for sure... Is there anyway to shoot cheaper with my 303 ?

WTB ad... check!

The only way to shoot for cheap is to get into hand loading. I'm getting set up this fall to load the once fired brass I saved from this summer.

I don't know what smithing tools Pak75 is talking about. I don't have anything other than normal hand tools. Unless you're going to starting swapping barrels and that sort of advanced stuff, all you need to disassemble your rifle are some screw drivers and a good cleaning kit (cleaning rod, patches, .30 caliber bore brush, solvent and gun oil).

Oh, and another thing you should get for it is the spike bayonet. I have seen a lot of these on the exchange of blades section. Shouldn't cost more than $20 or so.

If you can't get a sling here make an order at numrich and get enough stuff to justify your order. I got a few 'unmarked' original slings from them on my last order. One turned out to be WWII Canadian marked and the other Danish. Both were pretty nice, $14 each. $25 surcharge on Canadian orders though, so gotta order a lot to make up for it!

I wish I wasn't in the middle of moving homes, with most of my stuff still packed... I'm pretty sure I could spare you a pair of sling swivels for free, but mine are mostly Brit marked, I seem to recall.

If you're still missing some in a month or so, drop me a PM.

A WWII LB is a great way to get into milsurps - Its what I did about 15 years ago... I bet I paid a lot less for my first than you did!
