Hey, as the title says, I just purchased an sks, but dont really care to buy thousands of rounds of ammo at the moment. I have been reading about how it could become obsolete. is there companies that make it new? i mean it would just be a difference of paying more for new stuff as opposed to the cheap stuff?

Thanks for any insight.

Compare the prices http://ww w.theammosource.com/ .
The surplus will run 200-250$ per 1000-1200 rounds depending on where you buy.
The cheapest I got MFS *which is newly made non corrosive ammo * was 6.99/20
most places will charge more.

After firing surplus ammo you MUST clean your firearm or it WILL rust other threads cover that in more detail.

After firing newly made factory ammo you do not need to clean you gun *tho you may want to*.

I wont not worry about the 7.62x39 becoming obsolete anytime soon .

The advantages of firing newly made factory ammo is that lots of people find a increase in the accuracy of their SKS's .

So go out buy a crate and shoot her !.

im not soo worried about shooting thousands of rounds, i just want somethign i can shoot once in a while, id rather not use surplus, i just mainly want to know if come the time the surplus is either sold out or extremely expensive, is if companies will still make and sell 7.62x39 ammo.

oh ok, i'll buy surplus now, once its scarce as long as i know i can order a box of 20 or so, just like regular .270 or whatever, thats all i care about, I just dont want a big paperweight. haha...thanks!

there is nothing like taking a case of surplus out.. and not counting the dollars everytime you shoot.
just takes a lil clenaing afterwards, no big deal.. but the fun you can have with a case of surplus is limitless!!!!!!

MFS is too highly priced in Canada. In the States it sells for almost a third of what we are being hosed for in Canada. Buy the surplus and shoot until your heart is content and give it a good cleaning after.

"...companies will still make and sell 7.62x39 ammo..." All the U.S. ammo makers load 7.62 x 39. Factory ammo will not be cheap though.

It depend what you consider to high price for accuracy, my 3 SKS shoots 2 inchs groups with MFS SP and my Icon 308 under and inch with MFS 140 gr SP and at 12.00 and 14.00 for 20... Pretty cheap for non-corrosive very accurate ammo... JP.
