Turned out to be a gorgeous afternoon in my area, so I took "Old Faithful" out and strolled though some nice bush and hay land. Never fired a shot, but it was just a real pleasure to be out. The smell of the bush, the geese honking in the distance, the quiet solitiude - ahhhh!!!

A few days ago, I went for a walk in some Saskatchewan Wildlife Lands, a quarter section a few miles north of Grenfell. It is a great place to go walking, as they allow a farmer to cut the hay. There is a big slough in the middle, complete with a huge beaver house. Nice and quiet in there, too.

I know the feeling. Its getting harder and harder to find these quiet places that don't have quads and trucks driving around. I don't know about you other Sask hunters out there but around me I've found that over 95% of the hunters I run into have their butts on some type of motorized vehicle. To me its all noise and commotion.

I won't debate the pros and cons of their method of hunting but come on guys walk around and smell the hunting season:)

Its just not all about filling tags. BTW I've found out that when you walk around a bit and take your time you might even see a deer:D
 
It seems that the trend is heading toward "mechanized" hunting. To hear some of the mighty hunters tell it, you would think it is totally impossible to "hunt" without a quad. Some of the mightier ones have two on their big pickups, or four on a trailer. Each to his own, I guess.:rolleyes:
 
I don't own a quad. My truck has crappy tires and my off roading is done in a pair of size ten well broken in hiking boots. Bonus is I've never been stuck in the mud or had a mechanical break down in a remote area. And the best part is the only spare tire I have sits in the back on the truck and doesn't hang over my belt.
 
Looks like a nice spot. I think lots of guys/gals on here totally understand the walking thing. It's like therapy. It's a beautiful thing, especially with a shotgun in hand - even if it's never fired.

Yes, it is a 24H-DL. I've seen one other, at a gun show. It was in nice shape. IIRC the fellow wanted around $375 or $400. It was also .22/20ga. Mine has been with me since it was new circa 1965/66. It is well worn from carrying and riding in the vehicle. Deadly on chicken and bush partridge. I've used it for gophers, too. Wally Mart or Canada Tire el cheapo 20 ga. Packs a dirty wallop when you squeeze off thinking it is set for .22 and it is actually set for 20 ga.!!:p

I have one in .22, .410. Doesn`t look as nice as yours with the nickle action. I`d like to get on in 30-30, 20ga.
