Shortest big game hunt I've ever been on, hunting partners picked me up at home at 7:30, this guy was down by 9:30, skinned and quartered by 1pm. Shot by a member of this site, Zama herd wild Wood Bison bull in North West Alberta.

Métis tag, a lot easier field dressing and packing than January too so I'm glad. It's a whole 'nother animal to field dress, not overly complex, but everything's heavy.

OK, I thought the regular season was after Christmas.

It is one of my major pet peeves about our draw system. You are right, huntng them in Jan is a whole different ballgame. And I always wonder how many guys who get drawn, actually do hunt.

I live a couple of hours away, but I am not geared up for a Jan hunt. I hear all these guys talking about putting in for buffalo tags, but they don't know what they are in for. And, if drawn, will never go, not a chance.

To me, you are just wasting a tag. I don't get why people do it.

Rant off.

Of the tags that go out, they are heavily used (our company flies bison surveys in our area). The CO's seem very happy with the turnouts, the system is working well from everything I hear. Last year's tags were over 50% filled overall, and I think 57% for recreational. That's pretty good considering a lot of the tag winners are in Calgary or Edmonton.

Great pics! Thanks for sharing. I have always wanted to do a buffalo hunt. I also would have loved to have seen the West before all the buffalo were slaughtered.
