My sister came out to our club the other week and shot a nice Fausti 28 gauge over under. She nailed 14 out of 25 clays. Did really well and liked it.

My father wants to buy her a gun to shoot when she is there. We figure we should get one that is really pretty and nice for smaller shooters and with little recoil.

What is out there?

Anything on the EE that anyone has seen?

Ask her what she wants and what she is comfortable shooting. If you want her to like it let her pick. A proper fit gun will have less noticeable felt recoil. And most trap/ sporting guns shooting target loads have very little recoil even in 12 Ga.

Fit is just about all that matters, but if you want to add a reputable name, good quality, reliability and solid resale value, I'll sell your sis my wife's gun. Just kidding, I will not do that to my wife but she is 5 foot nothing and weighs 100lbs on a heavy day and shoots a Browning Citori over under Micro Midus in 12 gauge. These gun comes with a nice hard case and 7 chokes. I thought about getting barrels inserts for 20 and or 410 but they cost more than the gun so I just load down for her even though #7 target is quite manageable (maybe not for 25 rounds such as the case for my wife).

It's very difficult to find shotguns to fit women in general and smaller women in particular. Browning Micro Midas as has been mentioned and Caesar Guirini makes their Syren line for women but its pretty pricey. Remington and others make "youth" guns but they are pretty light and usually low end pump guns.

it is a surprise- he doesn't want to ask her. He asked me to do some research.

I am sure she wont really care- more for him to be able to take her out shooting a few times a year and for her to have something nice to use when she comes. She liked his Rizzini 20 gauge O/U and the Fausti 28 O/U.

I inherited a '79 Citori in 20ga a couple of years ago, and I've yet to see anyone NOT shoot that gun well. My teenage kids, my wife, my buddies, etc. 20ga target loads are pretty tame, and that gun really points/shoots well. It is light too, which means a little more felt recoil...but I think most people would agree it's a welcome compromise. One of our family guns is an 870 Youth in 20ga, and while I think it's a great field gun for younger, or smaller-framed shooters...I wouldn't recommend it for a dedicated clays gun. It'll do that just fine too, but now that your wife has experienced some really nice gear, that might be a hard sell. Goes "bang", functions perfectly, and under $400 used.

I've owned a 28ga and a 410 for years, both long gone. These sub gauges are cool, but for clays and small game, I like to throw more shot out there...and don't want/need the sticker shock of buying shells to feed them. Not everyone has the same budget constraints though.

My dad has a whinchester sx3 youth that my sisters use. It’s got a fully adjustable walnut stock (LOP, drop, cast on and off), chokes, will digest anything and has virtually non existent recoil. I’d say it’s just about perfect for this purpose.

Regardless of your research, which is awesome. He should surprise her with a trip to the gun store to pick one out.

+1 on letting her try/chose what she wants

Browning makes a nice BPS Youth in 20g

this is an awesome gun, my daughter shoots one, she is petite, likes the balance. She uses it when hunting as well. She tried every gun in the shop but kept going back to this one.
