Two and a half years ago I moved to my dream property in the Spring. I bought an old farm with 55 acres in the Cobequid Mountains in Northern Nova Scotia. About 8 acres are clear fields that fall away from the house so I've got a nice view. The rest is mature forest which I am doing some cutting in to open up the woods for new growth/feeding areas.

The first season I missed an opportunity on a nice 8 pointer and last year I had to settle for a spike.

So far this year I had only seen 2 spikes and a small 6-8 pointer from my stand. Am I ever glad I was patient and passed on them. On the morning of the 14th this guy came right out into one of the fields for me. He was following a hot doe. I took a neck shot from 100 yards cause he was facing away from me. He raised and turned his head and I fired and he dropped on the spot.

It was real nice to take the kids down and show them. They were very excited.

Below I've also posted a pic of the completed European mount I did in the days after. Hope you enjoy.

I didn't weigh him. I know, stupid, but I didn't have any scales and I had to go to work so I skinned him that morning. I guessed about 225 but the butcher who did him up said he was larger than a deer that weighed 225 that was hanging in the cooler. Even missing the neck and lower legs he told me the carcass weighed 165 and he figured it could have weighed 240, but that's all just speculation.

I know one thing, I have to cook a turkey that wouldn't fit in the freezer once I put away all the meat tonight. Just finished some sausage for supper and they were tasty.

I did score the rack tonight on the Boone & Crockett website and he scored 128 with 3 1/8" in deductions.

Thanks...I like it too. It was tough the first time but I learned a few lessons so the next one will be quicker and easier.
