nickel babbit ?

Yes. I use it all the time. Treat it as pure tin. Add 2% to Wheel Weight for a great alloy. Don't waste it using as is.

Babbitt was used in the olden days as a poured in place bearing for equipment and even some old engines. My dad had some old farm equipment that he burned in a big fire just to get the Babbitt out of. (Also so he could disassemble the packers that they were holding together) He then sifted through the ashes and came up with about an ice cream pails worth of melted Babbitt that he saved for when he would need it next.

He did this over 30 years ago and hasn't "needed" Babbitt for anything since.

Babbitt is still indespensible in high pressure loading areas. Where even spherical C4's bearings fear tread....
