So I'm thinking of finally pulling the trigger on Night Force purchase, specifically the NXS model, either 15 or 22 magnification with 50mm lens. I understand these are second focal scopes, which I'm comfortable with but I'm looking for performance feedback form guys who actually have and use these scopes. U-tube is full of unboxing videos which tell me nothing. I'm interested how they truly track at longer ranges, how friendly/sensitive or unforgiving is the parallax adjustment, longetivity, reticle sharpness and general reliability. I'm currently running Zeiss Conquest V4 - 6-24x50, which is a fairly decent scope but in theory NSX should be better scope given the price difference, the NXS runs some $800-900 more than the Zeiss so the question is how much better scope am I getting for those extra $$$. Also, how do they compare to Gen 2 PST if they could be compared at all, Razor should be closer but the price is such that Razor can be more expensive than NF and I need to stay with 30mm tube. I ran a number of Gen 1 PST's and some HST's in the past and I'm not touching those with 10 ft pole no matter how friendly the warranty department is, I refuse to be Vortex's quality control department doing at my cost what they should be doing before they put their junk into boxes and ship it to their Guinea pigs(customers). So real experience input would be much appreciated.
Cheers

My last scope I bought, I wanted it to be a Vortex 5-25 strike eagle, seemed alright in the store, so I looked at a PST2 to see how much better it was, it was broken already. Bought a different brand.

I use an ATACR, my buddy runs a NXS 5.5-22.

They are both excellent scopes. Mechanically they are very reliable and track with excellent consistency. The optical quality is also excellent. Under indoor lighting they don’t seem special but in the field is a different story. They perform very well in a variety of lousy conditions and are excellent at sunrise/sunset. The colours on the NXS aren’t quite as good (different coating?) but still very good.

The only downside is how heavy they are. I’m pretty sure you could wield them like an old Mag light flashlight.

I had an NXS 5.5 - 22x50 and it was a lovely scope. Clarity was excellent. Replaced it with an Athlon Ares BTR Gen 2 4.5 - 27x50. Both in MOA.
I shot out to 300 yards with the Nightforce on my 308 and it was great.
Was looking for a scope for long range .22 shooting so started looking around and found the Athlon for a little over $1100 new. Also found a deal on a nearly new PST Gen2 to put on another 22. Honestly I like both and have not had a problem with either. They work well in the applications and they are clear. As clear as the Nightforce? Not quite, but sufficient for what I use them for. In the end I sold my Nightforce for $2000 used and bought another Athlon new for the 308 and a GRS stock. I thought that was a better use of the money for the rig.
Now that said, money in my mind is never wasted on good optics but for my applications I thought I had too much tied up in one scope that I was able to use elsewhere to further my enjoyment and improve my shooting.
I have not used your version of the Zeiss but I would think it should be a good optic. Maybe spend your dollars on something else to help you enjoy your shooting?

I have had a NXS 5.5 - 22x50 for many years on several different F class rifles. It is well built and robust. I expect it to last a life time. It is probably the best scope for the money you could buy. I would suggest buying from a Canadian supplier in case any warranty issues arise.

The $800-900 "better" on the NF is all on the inside. It will be more durable and robust than the V4 and over its lifetime should track better. It will also be about 6 ounces heavier. I owned a 5-20 x 50 for a few years and loved it, but it was just too heavy for hunting. The V4 scope you have is made in Japan, and there are some complaints if you google it about tracking issues and repairs. The V6 is made in Germany and is supposed to be another level of quality higher then the V6, besides the range of zoom. I have not owned a V4 or V6 but would guess that the NF glass would be similar or just behind the Zeiss

I have an NSX 5.5-22x50 and the eye box and depth of field is excellent. I compared it to my Kahles 624 and the 624 is sharper at the target but the NXS has a much better depth of field and is far easier to use in general.

The way I see it, depth of field is the single most important scope feature and the NSX is hard to beat. I wish they made a FFP version of it.

I have often wondered if the difference in Dof has anything to do with FFP vs SFP, considering the 624 is actually a bit longer.

Nightforce made the 3.5-15 in FFP and you see them semi regularly on the EE. I enjoy NF scopes but some models certainly seem expensive especially since they are 20 year old designs.

I have 2 nxs 5.5-22x50 they track great. I did a tracking test on both of them when i got them, both tracked out to 25 moa. Didnt go past 25.

My first nxs i have used hard for around 8 years now the worst that has happened was the finnish wore off of the turrets. The nightforce guys at shot show were famous for spinning the scopes by the turrets. I have never had the turrets slip on me.

The parallax is relitivly forgiving past 400. No clomplaints from me.

Im fairly confident you could destroy a vortex pst with an nxs and it will still work.

The illumination on the nxs line to me works better then the digilum. Pull parallax out turns it on push it in shuts it off.
