Can anyone here recommend a set of night vision Binos? Something that works but not crazy expensive. Hoping to spend under $1000 cad.

Sorry brother, but there is nothing on the market for $1000 that is worth $1000. Add one more zero and you’re onto something. I know that’s not what you want to hear. :(

I have found 10x50 binoculars worked better than expected at night. Hard to point, but with ambient light, they see better than bare eyeballs.

At your budget it will be Gen1.

They don't work very well but with an IR flashlight they work well though you will be visible to others with NODs if that is an issue for you and your needs.

the Russians made some very good Gen 1 glass back in the day
That was when we all were friends and they converted the night vision to use our batteries
still have my Binos from decades ago and they still work
Kind of interesting using them with gen2 American stuff

7x50 is perfect for power and low light ,front lens diameter :by power =50 :7=just over 7mm and that's the max human eye pupil aperture that's all you need for low light.
:cheers::welcome:

While technically true, I bet very few people on CGN actually get 7mm, as it tends to decrease with age. It drops off fast in your 20s, then by your mid-50s it's under 5mm on average.

At low luminance (overall mean = 5.76 mm), five distinct groups of increasing age and decreasing mean pupil diameter were identified: (1) ≤21 years = 6.98 mm; (2) 21 to 25 years = 6.36 mm; (3) 25 to 43 years = 5.83 mm; (4) 43 to 52 years = 5.47 mm; (5) ≥52 years = 4.97 mm (p < 0.001)

So 10x50s can actually be just as good as 7x50s, depending on your eyes.
