Night vision/thermal scopes

Just make sure you dont use them on a loaded gun that is not fully enclosed after legal shooting light, thats all.

That’s incorrect. You can’t hunt after sunset. The rules about shooting after dark are patchwork across the country. Varmints, pests and predators can be shot anytime and anywhere it’s legal to discharge firearms, generally speaking.

It would be up to you to prove that you are not hunting, correct. And as for racoons yes you also need a dog licensed for hunting to go along with that scope and the scope must only be on a .22 calibee rifle.

The only reason cops would shot up and question your activities is because someone complained about it. If you're shooting in the middle of the night and you're close enough to disturb people, then you're an a$$hole for disturbing their sleep. If you're banging on your own property in the middle of nowhere then it's not an issue. However, Provincial and County/Municipal rules may prohibit shooting and/or loud noises after a certain time. As for dogs and Racoons, that could be an Ontario thing. Contrary to the beliefs of most Ontarians, there exists a land outside Ontario, and the rules there likely differ.

There is no federal law against discharging a firearm after dark However some provincial hunting regulations either dont say anything or say it is unlawful to discharge a firearm after dark (doesnt specify hunting) such as alberta. I dont know how this translates to the month and a half outside of a big game season or how the hunting "regulations" are taken in a court of law. I dont know if the regulations are law or just enforced from an ethical stand point.

And because the OP does not state where they are from, that is why myself and cancer noted the ontario regs incase they were from that region as those were what we were most familiar. Sorry for not spending my time researching every provincial regulation for the guy like you did. Go flames.

I have my night vision setup for predator protection and working on my thermal(big price tags)...

Nothing illegal about protecting livestock

The only legal limit is importing from the USA...(also be careful of buying used from an illigal import or boarder crossing)

Lots of venders including site sponsors sell night vision and thermal imported from UK and other areas.

I recommend you to take a look on night scopes from AGM Global Vision brand. I have one, it Wolverine 4 NL3(here is a review https://www.agmglobalvision.com/night-vision). Some features:
4X magnification
Shock protected, all-glass IR transmission multicoated optics
Made from aircraft aluminum alloy
Illuminated reticle with brightness adjustment
Quick-release mount
Mounts to standard weaver rails
Water and fog-resistant
Quite good as for me!

Many years ago, I found a 1st gen. Russian Milt one in a estate I was helping with.
big and heavy, worked good. Whish I had taken a picture of it .
I never used it on a gun, But a rancher near me bought it for a 223 coyote gun . He made a mount and cleaned up a lot in the spring when the cows where calfing.
The few people around where use to gun fire.

I got two of the Russian night vision scopes to go with my American Dark Invader PVS4 's.
They came with SKS slide on mounts. A great combination because the gun is cheaper than the
scope was at the time.
I don't know if these are being sold anymore, I also have the Russian night vision bino's to go with them
All were factory converted to use ordinary batteries

I bought a Night Vision Scope from Wolverine , in Manitoba . They had many models to choose from . No issue there .
Cash & carry . In Ont. the laws regarding shooting @ night are different between sport hunting & a farmer ( or his agent)
protecting his livestock .
