has anyone used the new 2.5x10 nightforce in hunting,low light early morning and evening???does it give good light transmision like they claime?what redical was used?

2.5-10x24 mildot. It won't work as well as a 50mm scope for the first and last 10 min of the day when comparing scopes of the same power.
That said, with it at 2.5, so long at it isn't an overcast night, you should be fine.

I have a NF 2.5-10x24 w NP-R2 reticle, use it on a 308 scout rifle. Like carbonrod says, it is not a 50mm scope, but light transmission is not bad (it has good glass, which helps). I wanted a rugged, compact scope with an illuminated reticle, and this one is just a natural fit. I am sure the x32 would be an improvement if you are buying new and it will fit your gun (x24 is discontinued).

That's one reason I've never tried a Nightforce. In the magnification ranges I'm interested in, their scopes have a very small diameter objective lens. I wish they'd come out with a 2.5-10x40 or x50, for example. I suppose they're targeting the tactical/AR crowd with their low power scopes.
Have you had a chance to have a peek through one ? I was at the range the other day shooting a couple of 2.5-10x24 NF (one on the Scout, one on an M14S) as well as a couple of NF 5.5-22x50 and NF 8-32x56, and one lone 6-24x40 Elite 4200. I recall that the NF was exceptionally clear aright around sunset (shooting a white target at 400yds). Even with some other great comparisons to prove how bad the 2.5-10x24 could be, the x24 proved excellent.

I had a chance to look through a NXS 2.5-10x32 or 3.5-15x32, don't recall off hand. Keeping in mind I only use scopes for hunting, I found the reticle too fine and too "busy". I went with a S&B Summit instead and don't believe I gave up anything, but rather gained some clarity. Price was the same.
Perhaps if Nightforce offered more hunting oriented reticles I may revisit them, but I suppose their primary clientele uses them for tactical and target purposes. The only illuminated reticles I care for are when the very center of the crosshair has a dot, like Swarovski and Zeiss use in some scopes.
I have no doubts the Nightforce 24mm can stay even with a Bushnell 4200 40mm at dusk, but that's not really a fair comparison.

I really like the NP-R1 and R2 reticles for hunting, as I use the hash marks for hold overs. I also use an NP-1 on a 1-4x24 for my close quarters kind of hunting as it is a very straightforward and unsophisticated reticle.
The S&B is certainly no slouch from what I have heard. Would love to compare side by side.

I have two Nightforce NXS scopes, a 3.5-15x50 and a 2.5-10x32. Both have the NPR2 reticle and are used on hunting rigs.
The 32 is not as good as the 50 at first and last light but it is better than most everything else I've looked through.
I find the NPR2's easy to use and the MOA increments are real world useable for holdover at distance.
