Anyone had a chance to look through one of these yet, I know there are a few in Canada.

I'm in the market for a scope for a 338 and the new ATACR is on the top of my list right now, I'm liking the 120MOA of elevation travel.

I own a NXS 5.5-22x56 and a S&B 12-50x56, I have to say the S&B is has very noticable better glass than the NXS. Some reports from the american forums say the glass in the ATACR is right on par with the S&B. If this is the case then it shold be a great scope, Nightforce ruggedness with S&B glass plus 120 MOA elevation travel! All this for about 1k less than a S&B make it sound to good to be true.

So any CGN's had a look through them yet?

Looked at these at SHOT and the glass is very impressive, definitely improves upon current NXS glass. If they were FFP at that price point Nightforce would sell a ton of them.

well if u dont like FFP, ill sell you my 12-50 SB, in SFP, so i can get one in FFP :)

My 12-50 S&B is SFP and while it's a very nice scope I don't think the 65 MOA of elevation adjustment would be all that great for a long range 338.

I have been considering a S&B PMII 5-25 but of coase NF had to come out with a new scope to make the decision harder

I'd be curious to hear from a first hand account about the turrets, the review was that the B.E.A.S.T after a day on the floor at SHOT had turrets that went to mush... Hopefully an isolated incident with the new models of NF

I heard that this was on the beast because of them turning the turrets with the "brake" on. The ATACR doesn"t have the "brake" feature so this shouldn't be a problem.

The ATACR felt solid. The turrets appeared to be like the ones on the NXS, which are proven.

Incidentally, since the show, Nightforce mentioned on Snipershide (with regards to requests for an FFP version of the ATACR) that "We hear you and the suggestions have not fallen on deaf ears.". The NF business development manager posts there as 00bullitt...

If they had just made a 5.5-22 NXS in FFP I would have been satisfied. I have two NF scopes and really like them except for them being SFP. I am getting rid of them for that reason. The BEAST doesn't appeal to me and I don't feel like waiting a couple of yrs for when and if they decide to offer an ATACR or an NXS in FFP.

I can let you know more in a couple of days as we have an order of ATACR scopes sitting at the airport here now. 1 of these is going on my new 338LAI
I am REALLY glad NF did not opt to make these FFPs, I actually asked them how many BEASTS I would have to buy to get them to make them in SFP. To each our own I guess.

Aren't they already in SFP?

ATACR: 2nd focal plane
BEAST: 1st focal plane

Looked throgh one this week and it's "nice", but this means nothing, as a proper evaluation should be carried out; maybe when I retire. Actually, if someone wants to get some optical testing charts as the US Air Force 1952 or whatever, we would provide some product. Until then. it's all subjective and many on this forum seem to already "know" what's best. Sort of like stating Red Bull or McLaren would in the last F1. Wrong!

Regards,

Peter

I am still pretty new to all this high quality gear but I have had the opportunity to look through several S&B's that a friend has and compare to my NXS's on multiple occasions. I don't really like FFP myself personally. The S&B seemed to have the edge optically but I prefer Nightforce and SFP. Seems to be the right combination of attributes for me.

I was thinking of another NXS at some point but the ATACR SFP sounds great. So long as they are MOA/MOA. Mil may not be the icky metric system but it seems too close for me.

PS Mclaren seems to be slipping this year so far. But we will see what Jensen can do if we get some changeable conditions. Not a Mclaren fan but I do love seeing them all race in the rain!!!!

i have a for year old gun. it a marlin 308 exrpess with a bushnll scope. i need to get $1000 for it if interested call 613-847-1526. i live in trenton ON, thanks

Wrong Forum.

This is not a sales forum. You need to apply for the Equipment Exchange Forum and post your stuff for sale there............

My plan is to sell my SB now. Biggest reasons, to my eye the optical resolution is so close I can not tell the difference other than that color hues are slightly different from scope to scope, this is most likely due to the lens coatings.
The turrets on the NF are what I am used to. The SB turrets are very good but different than the NF and as I have quite a few NF scopes I prefer them due to being used to them.
The eye relief is marginally better in the NF than what the SB has.
Biggest reason for me is the reticle. The MOAR I understand and as I am an MOA guy works for me. The P4F in my SB is nice and clean and mils which for me is useless.
With the nearly $800.00 difference in price I think it is really hard to justify the SB based on my eyesight.
YMMV

So I ordered the ATACR with MOAR reticle and a Spuhr mount, Near dosen't currently have a tall enough mount to work with the AX chassis and I have been wanting to check out the Spuhr mounts anyways. Now the wait.
