I'm thinking of getting a Nightforce scope for F-Class, but was wondering which reticle is the preferred choice amongst those who own a NF and why?

What are the advantages to the different types? Any thoughts on this?

Recently asked the top F'ers the same question. NPR1 or NPR2 came out slight favourites over Mildot. With any of those you have measurable aimoff and bracketing capabilities. Very usefull in heavy mirage.

Double dot retical seems to be well recieved, although I don't know why. I went for the Np-R1 myself. I also shoot precision rifle with it or at least will be this season. Only got it not long ago.

The NP-R2 reticle has a problem. It is very very fine. When it's bright outside and you're shooting on a target with a white background, it can wash out the reticle making it very very hard to see. Anyhow, that's been my experience with a 3.5-15 x 50.

I've got the np-R2 in a 12-42, and it's fine at high magnification, since the 5 minute hashes at 22x get smaller, as the power is turned up, but if I was doing it again I'd try to get an np-r1. I don't like the mlr/ mildot solution just because the mils don't match my adjustments, and I switch back and forth between holding off and making adjustments for wind.

NP-2DD is the local favorite here.

I think we have a total of 6 of the NP-2DD's locally.

For true F Class work these seem to be the reticles that we get asked for. Why I don't really know but there must be a reason.
For every other use the R1 seems to be the most popular reticle, we sell 5 R1s to every R2 and 50 R1s to every 2DD but I suspect it is more becuase of the market we tailor to.

To me the R1 makes the most sense, I wish NF would make 1/8 moa turrets with an R1 reticle, I can not imagine anything getting more precise for adjustments and being able to make corrections.

This is what I'm getting for my precision build NXS 5.5-22X50 MLR W/ Mil Rad 0-Stop Turrets

I prefer the MLR reticle but we sell a lot of the NPR1 reticles. The NPR1 is a moa bases reticle 1moa down and 2moa across. I like the 0-Stop turret in Mils not in MOA. The MIL turret has 5mil in one turn and it only takes 2 REVs to get to 1k were the MOA is 10moa PER REV and it takes 4 ½ REVS to get to 1k. Because the 0-Stop turret do not have any Elevation REV marks you can not tell what REV you are in so when you are using the MOA 0-Stop you are best off going back down to 0 every time you get off your rifle

Lots of people on snipershide recommend the mils.

We need outbound here on this subject, Mr F-class for the bcra, he uses mostly NF.
Myself I got the 5.5-22x 56 R1 with Moa turrets. I agree with paulinski about matching Ret and turret combo whether that is moa or mill.

Larry Bartholome uses NP-R2 and "does not concentrate on the reticle, but on the target".

The top Canadian FClass shooter, Marius de Champlain( 32 gold medals at the DCRA nationals) plus Atlantic and Quebec champion ++, uses NP-1RR.

There are other top FClass shooters using BR-type reticles such as CH-2, however Larry talks about CH-1 being too fine for FClass.

Certainly a variety of supported arguments as noted in posts including the NP-2DD.

Regards,

Peter
