New to the forum and looking for some advice on the new Nightforce Nx8 4-32x50. I primarily hunt Alberta prairie but do venture to the mountains for sheep and bear every now and again. Looking for a good lightweight cross over optic to use for hunting and steel shooting out to 1200 yards. Budget isn’t very limited. The NX8 seems to check all the right boxes for me but now wondering if I should go F1 or F2? Has anyone had any issues or experience with either or is there a preference for one based on my criteria? I’d be looking at the Mil-C (F1) or MOAR CF2D (F2). Thanks in advance for any advice!

I love my Nightforce scopes but there are certainly not lightweight. They are built like old school mag light flashlights. I’m pretty sure you could beat someone over the head with a Nightforce.

Also if your going to get 32X power scope I’d recommend FFP. You will find yourself dialing back the magnification in less than ideal conditions. This makes windage holdover a challenge.

First focal plane is good anywhere, you can dial or you can use stadia for elevation holds
Second focal plane is pretty much dial for hold overs unless you use it at the high power setting and then use stadia for hold overs

Thanks for the insight and replies! I had been thinking of the F2 but now the F1 is sounding more practical. I had just been worried on seeing the reticle on lower powers. But I am usually hunting around 8-16 anyways.

Yeah, if I had just scrolled down I would have noticed the very similar thread. Whoops! First post and just excited to begin asking questions. But anyways I ended up opting for the F2 model in MOAR for now to try. Since this is going to be used for hunting and most of my other scopes where F2 I thought I’d better stay in comfortable territory. I don’t plan on using the reticle to much but just dial my elevation for most shots. Anyways I’ll rock it for a bit and see how it goes! Thanks for all the replies and advice guys. Maybe my next optic will be F1...

To bad i didnt read this earlier cause i HAD a nx8 2-20 FFP and sold it and bought a schmidt and bender 5-20 ultra short. Don't get me wrong the nightforce is a great scope. but after owning a schmidt and bender i found the nightforce was lacking something.. but thats just my two cents.

Had the NX8 2.5-20 FFP and I had a fairly difficult time with the eyebox on that particular scope and I really wanted to like it. I ended up selling it as I just could not get into a good position easily with it, the MIL-XT reticle was quite good though and I would have that again in a minute just on a different model. If you can get behind one before making the plunge it may be worth doing to confirm it works for you.
