What are your toughts on the Nightforce NX8 2.5-20 vs Nightforce NXS 5.5-22? Thoughness, clarity and turret and build quality?

I have a 5.5-20 nxs on a stag10 6.5. I love my nxs but the 5.5 is to high for in close stuff. How usable is the nx8 on low power and would it be an upgrade to the nxs? In short would I be trading features for quality?

I can't speak specifically about the NX8 but I can say from experience with other FFP scopes that you should NOT expect the reticle to be very useful (if at all) in the lower magnification range. When looking for the quick shot at low magnification it can be hard as the reticle seems lost in the field of view. The lines in the reticle are really small at low magnification and become faint and hard to see depending on the backdrop and lighting conditions. Even finding center X can be more difficult than you would think. The first FFP scope I put on a hunting rifle got pulled off pretty quickly. I find FFP to be awesome but not really effective until about half the scopes magnification range and higher.

If you're looking at the NX8 only because it's got a lower low magnification range than your current scopes 5.5X I don't think there's going to be a significant benefit as the reticle isn't going to be user friendly in it's lower range.

Just my .02

At 100m and in, what part of the reticle are you using aside from the center point?

I dont have the 2.5-20 NX8 but I do have the original 1-8 NX8 and have zero issues with the ffp, especially considering all the NX8’s have illuminated reticles, it should be extremely easy to find center line at 2.5x

^^^ yes that's a fair point that the illumination does help significantly in the lower magnification range. It's almost a necessity.

I do agree with both your statement. I do beleive at low mag it might be useless but maybe barable with illumination? I usually dont use illumination in the day but it might be needed on that one!? I do have a Burris veracity 3-15 and the reticle is not a problem at 3
