I am considering buying either of the 2 for a magnum cal rifle to shoot to 800. Maybe use it for the odd coyote. I won’t be dropping out of any helicopters so do I really need the NXS? Seems like overkill. Looking for real world experience from other users.

Why did you get rid of it?
I have an NSX, and have used it on two F-Class rifles and in Precision service rifle class. Well over 5000 rounds fired and never an issue. I expect to keep this optic till the day I die. However, I have handled the "newer" SHV sights and can certainly find no fault in them, particularily for less formal range work and long range hunting purposes. Certainly an excellent value for the dollar depending on your application.
Perfect. Any recommendations on one piece bases? Normally i use leoupold mk 4 2 piece rings. However, i want to have the option of using the scope on a couple different flat topped rifles. Are the nightforce 1 piece 20 moa 1 piece rings worth it?
When i was shopping i couldnt tell a difference between the shv and the nsx glass in the stores. Not saying much not being mounted and outside. I decided on the shv to save weight. The finish mars extremely easy on the shv scopes where as the nsx i think i could drag it downrange behind the truck and not scratch it. That said i use my rifle for hunting so i know it will get marked up. I have the 4-14x56 ill moar and love it. I believe prophet river has then still at old prices. Might be worth a look there as theyve gone up due to our dollar
I believe the glass in the shv is the same glass used in the nxs so it makes sense that optically they look the same when you compare them looking through it. I think the big difference is that the shv is built lighter and for hunting rather than the battle field. So it's not as robust. I have an shv and it's an impressive scope for the money!
