I live under a rock and don't get out much!

Anyhoo - the suppliers are selling the scope I want at around $2600.00 and change and they are all within a few bucks of each other by the look of it.

I have heard from the punditry that Amazon is going to destroy retail sales in Canada so I figgered I would just shop and compare. They want $5200.00 for the same scope... what gives?

For the record I would never buy something like that off Amazon because my supplier not only sells the scope - for a few bucks more they'll install it and true it up and torque it down like pros. If I have a problem I know they would pitch in to help... I am just wondering about the huge price difference is all.

Have a great Tuesday!

i believe a circus man once said there is a sucker born every minute. The prices on Amazon are for that person. I have noticed the same thing with all things firearms related. Most recently a few Protektor shooting bags which were on Amazon for $180, when you can buy them direct from the USA for $20 USD.

If amazon decides to carry nightforce, or probably more to the point if nightforce decides to sell there products through amazon, you may see a change in prices. So long as it is independent retailers selling on the amazon marketplace i do not believe you will never see any good deals. Any manufacturer who has a "niche" product with a strong brand, distribution and resellers to keep loyal will probably never sell through Amazon as a reseller. They would simply be eroding their prices and alienating their primary sales channel.

I had the opposite experience with some talley rings lately. Amazon had them 20-30 cheaper than any local store i called, and they had the exact model i wanted in stock where as most LGS i talked to said they didnt but had some for a remington 700 that would fit my weatherby vanguard, even though talley lists different model numbers for the 2 rifles... I eventually got sick of arguing with the local guys and just ordered them on amazon and mounted the scope myself, and it looks and functions great.

Amazon though is a store where you really need to know your prices, they have alot of items cheaper than others but certain things they are way way overpriced on.

Been my experience to most thinks on Amazon being 20 - 30% cheaper. But with all things you need to look around and do your homework.

Amazon is awesome and outrageous.

$9999.99 Sightron - wut?

$70 prime shipped Warne 30mm low rings, should have bought 3 pairs for that because they jumped back over $100 a few days later.

$285 prime shipped Burris 1-4 Tac30 and then it jumped back to $500.

Independent, third party Amazon sellers are the ones who jack-up the prices. Always look at the description. If it says "sold and shipped by Amazon" your golden. They have a good selection of gunsmith tools!

I HATE Amazon and will never buy anything from them...EVER. They are killing retail for the small independent shops, have terrible service and don't give a $h1t if you get the right product or not.

I have bought stuff on there for outrageously good prices and then a few days later the price suddenly doubles or triples. Know your prices and keep an eye for sales.

Puriator lost an item for me from amazon. Contacted amazon and within 15 min a new one was shipped out no questions asked.

I agree with killing the small retail shops.. But they have one of the best customer service departments in the retail industry (amazon items at least, can be a different story with the 3rd party sellers). They will ship out a replacement without thinking twice. Ive had them ship items because they were late.. and ive ended up with 2x the order.. and they didn't want me to return due to shipping costs...
You would be one of few who aren't getting on board with this company. Just saying. We all have a right to our opinion and where we spend our money.. But what you are saying simply isn't accurate. Ive bought more than 100 orders and have always been taken care of mainly due to the vast resources they operate with. They don't like unhappy customers..

A couple of points.
If you check Amazon itself does not sell Nightforce scopes. Some of their 3rd party sellers do...but they can charge whatever they think they can get. I use Amazon a lot...but if they don't sell an item, I do my due diligence and research the pricing on an item before I buy from a 3rd party seller.
For the most part the only business's Amazon is putting out of business are those that have not kept up with the times. Ever since the start of the big box stores retail has changed. You can't mark product up 50%+ these days and expect to stay in business. Other than womens clothing, cosmetic, jewellry and a few other things...huge markups are a thing of the past and have been for 20 years. All Amazon has done is added the convenience of shopping from your home and having it delivered.
Case in point. I've worked in the photographic equipment supply for 30 years with a local Alberta independent retailer that has been in business since 1948. Our prices are competitive with anything on Amazon and we have not been affected at all by them. This is because we had to get our pricing in line when things like Best Buy and such came into being. The only stores business's that are being seriously impacted by Amazon are ones that haven't had to deal with the 'big box' mentality that started well before Amazon.
For example...people like to say Amazon killed independent booksellers. B.S. Chapters and such killed them. Amazon just finished off the ones that were left. Chapters Indigo is still Canada's largest bookseller.
Amazon has put business's with lousy customer service out of business...but again that isn't Amazon's fault. Recently I ordered a watch from them. Two days to my door, free shipping. Opened it up and after one day it quit. Called Amazon and while I was on the phone they sent emailed the free return shipping label, and the new watch was sent overnight. It was at my door before I had a chance to drop off the defective one in the corner mailbox. So much for those saying 'lousy customer service'.
There are certain things I won't buy from them. Anything I think I may need help with 'learning' I buy locally. I myself don't really appreciate the person that come in with their new camera, has no idea how to work it and wants a lesson and mentions they got a real good deal on it online. So be it...if I treat them well they'll be back anyway.
But things like books (or the great VooDoo Tactical Ammo pouches I just got at 1/3 less than Cabela's)...well I don't need to pay 30% more for someone to tell me how to turn a page.
