I've had a new Nightforce on my rifle for about 2-2.5 weeks now.
Someone asked me how I liked the lighted reticle a couple of days after I had mounted the scope and my answer was " the lighted what?".
I didn't realize that I had gotten the lighted version so we tried it.
By pulling out the left hand side dial that you use for focus if pulled firmly you get a click and the reticle should light up. Mine didn't.
I got it home checked the battery and it metered out ok but nothing, I bought new batteries at the variety store , still nothing. Read the manual during all this and it explained that there was a small setting adj. screw in the back of the battery compartment. tried turning it up, still nothing so I figured i'd just call Nightforce at a later date.
I called em today, they were busy with calls so the girl had me leave a voice mail message on the guys phone.
15 min. later I get a call from a remarkably cheerfull guy at Nightforce (he answers dumb questions all day) saying hi , how was I and what can he do to help get me functional.
I told him the story and he said ok i'll walk you through it but you,ll have to put the phone down once in a while.
After 5-7 min. my new scope works absolutly fantastic, wow , does this look nice.
What I learned. When you pull the on/off know "out" to turn it on, you have to unscrew the cover to access the battery compartment.
The battery is to be mounted so's that the "+" is out to you. With the cover still off have a friend hold the batter in place and make sure the edge is touching the edge of the case (you need contact on both sides of the batt. to get it to work obviously) slide the battery off center towards 4 o,clock because the adjustment screw (extremely small and delicate) is at 9 o,clock.
With this done, use your left hand and a jewelers straight (tiny) screw driver to do the adjustments (full adjustment from full on to full off is only about 180 degrees) Look through the eyepiece with the lens cap "ON" you need it dark in there, just turn the adj. screw untill you get the desired brightness.
The problem I had was this,,,,,,,,, My manual although it told me how to basically find and accomplish the adjustments it didn't get me the tips and tricks AND it didn't tell me that CLOCKWISE TURNS THE BRIGHTNESS DOWN,,,,,, NOT UP. Full COUNTERCLOCKWISE is full brightness.
Scope is working perfect now, I loved it before the lighted reticle i'm sure i'll love it more now that its working.
Thanks to the tech. guys at Nightforce for calling right back , knowing just what to do and being courtious, and professional.
The Scope I have is the 12x42x56 NXS, after the performance of this one and the level of quick service I've had i know the next rifle i'm picking up in a couple of weeks will probably get the 12x42x56 Benchrest for the 6PPC.
