I have a set of nightforce ultralights. How do they measure them to figure out what height they are!?

Oh the frustration those rings can cause!

Look at the pic and notice that A does NOT end at the junction between lower and upper sections.
It ends at some virtual point below it (that corresponds to the centre of the ring). They’re not vertically symmetrical but that’s not easily visible on casual observation.

Once you figure that out it will all make sense.

In other words B + 1/2 tube diameter will get you there

Yes, that’s self-evident and obvious — no doubt the OP knows that — but it entirely misses the point.

The point is that there’s a common error with the *empirical measurement* of ring height specifically with Nightforce Ultralights, and it’s easy to think you’re directly measuring B + 1/2 tube diameter when you’re not.

Take four different 30mm rings pictured below:

The first three measurements are all correctly measuring ring height (A) = B + 1/2 bore diameter.

The fourth measurement (last pic) is a Nightforce Ultralight ring and the measurement being taken is NOT a correct measure of ring height — because the upper and lower halves are asymmetrical.

It’s easy to miss that when your mounting the rings. The diagram I posted above is not included in any product packaging or literature — I pulled that off the net. But once you see that diagram it makes it all clear.

The OP is not alone — this is a common, known and easy-to-make mistake specifically with Nightforce Ultralights, and so if you’re using those rings it’s good to be aware of it.

Thank you very much!!! Solved the riddle!

How hard do you think it would be to mark these things with their height? Pretty lame
