What is everybody doing when you need warranty on your nightforce scope.
I have a problem with the zero stop clutch on mine.
Nightforce won't send the parts out. They said to send it back through a dealer.
I can't find one that will send it back.
Sure seems to be a pain to get this fixed.

Nope wasn't smuggled from the US. As a matter of fact I think it was one of the ones I bought from you.
I live in Manitoba and I called the 2 dealers listed here, Jo Brook firearms, who said that if I didn't buy it from them they would not help me.
Next call was to Cabelas in Winnipeg, who were really helpful, they said they don't deal direct with nightforce so they couldn't help me either.

I was trying to deal with someone that was local to avoid shipping it an extra time. Plus I though it would be quicker as well.

Plus it seems really strange to have to contact a dealer that you may not have purchased something from to get them to send it back.
Guess I was hoping there was some sort of distibuter that dealt whth the waranty in Canada.

THIS is why people should really think about where they purchase ITAR controlled goods.
ALL NF dealers have the capacity to look after warranty returns, yet many seem to feel that they will only help the folks they originally sold to and no-one else. The exception being Cabelas. We have had many incidences where folks have purchased NF products from Cabelas and either had problems either figuring out how to get the most out of the scope or warranty issues that the people at Cabelas refuse to deal with this.



Illegally exported ITAR goods are a whole different issue. Any NF dealer can send it back but the chances of NF being able to return it tom Canada are low.
 
Off Topic:

Both Rick and Peter; Don't blame the purchaser, blame the manufacture and those "smuggling" the products.

The customer sees the CDN mark-up and wonders why when other options exist. If NF doesn't want to protect the CDN cost increase and exclusivity, your beef is with them. It's their choice to stop selling product to the smuggling retailers.

If somebody needs warranty on a smuggled item, have them take it up with NF. It's the NF name being dragged through the mud when they refuse to correct the situation.
 
Not blaming the purchaser, my complaint is with stores that sell the products not looking after their own customers, or stores that KNOW they are selling ITAR controlled products and yet take the $$ anyway and leave the purchaser to their own devices when warranty problems are encountered.
I think it is unfair for these types to take the $$ but fail to deliver when the road gets rough.
 
Why anyone would smuggle a Nightforce from the states is always a head-scratcher for me. I've always found U.S. & Cdn pricing to be within about $50 - $100. For example, an NXS 5.5-22x50 ZS Moar is about $1950 U.S. That converts to almost $2600 Cdn with current exchange rate. Now price that same scope from Hirsch or another Cdn retailer...

How does a corporation get an ITAR controlled product up here without the proper paperwork??? Why in the hell would they go to that risk, and who would send it from the US side??

I hear Rick's point loud and clear - and agree 100%.

The "was is smuggled" was a little snooty though - but I have bad mornings too.

I have an ATACR on order from JoBrook, that is now 11 weeks late, and they won't return my calls or my email. I may be rethinking.

With the exchange as it is now, you're absolutely right. When is was 1.00 or 1.10 though, there was 500-1000$ to be saved.....
 
It is individuals that smuggle. Nightforce has good programmes to protect dealers in their respective countries, unlike some other well-known makers.
 
That makes more sense.

"dealer protection" upsets me when prices don't follow the exchange. I'd much rather by in Canada, for anything, but when a 1ton diesel can be gotten home for 62000$ (in 2007) instead of paying 85000 in Calgary, ya gotta do it.....

That is why I was looking for a distributor to return the scope to. I was hoping there was a rep in Canada that dealt with this sort of thing.
Also not every scope that is sold is going to be a new purchase. Have a look on optic exchange, everything on there is looking for a new home and most aren't dealers.
I am a service manager of a dealership and have to take care of equipment bought out of the area so I know how it works with warranty and costs associated with it. And also the importance of taking care of the customer. There isn't much hope of the person ever buying something from you if you won't take care of him.

A little customer service will create a customer for life.

Good news is I spent an hour on the zero stop clutch and removed the bur from the threads and its working good now so I don't have to send it in.

Yet people still flock to the big box stores like Cabelas to purchase products that the vendor will NOT stand behind when the customer needs help with a warranty problem.

I agree with you and we DO look after many warranty problems for folks who did not purchase products from us, my point was that people should inquire "what if" when purchasing things. My real ##### is with dealers of anything that are simply there for the sale and nothing more.

We got stung some time back with returning a smuggled scope to NF for warranty. We were assured by the customer it was purchased from another Canadian dealer, when in fact it was not. When it was seized by US customs the customer expected us to replace it, as a result of this we ask for some form of proof the scope was purchased in Canada from an authorized dealer so that we then have something to prove the scope was legally exported in the first place. When purchasing a used NF one is taking a chance on whether the scope is in country legally or not, asking the seller for a copy of the bill of sale is always a good idea.

Glad you were able to get your scope sorted out.
 
A nightforce is a nightforce no matter what country it was bought from. When someone spends thousands of dollars on a legitimate product it should not matter where it was purchased from. If denying warranty service on such an expensive piece of equipment I know I would stay away from that company

The issue isn't the manufacture not providing service. Its the US government seizing illegally exported goods. Therefore it is not NF's fault.
 
This is why I bought my Nightforce directly from Hirsch. And I'm glad I did since I had to send mine to get fixed.sometimes buying grey market or from non authorised dealers isn't worth it.
 
Unfortunately, Nightforce is one of those products that you should buy properly. New, and from an actual dealer. Nightforce isn't big enough to have warranty centers in Canada like Leupold, and since it is ITAR controlled, it has to be licensed appropriately when coming up from the States in order for it to be shipped back down for warranty.

There can be huge savings in buying one used, but I wouldn't, unless you can find out where the owner purchased the scope from originally and speak to the dealer regarding warranty on the scope and whether they'd be willing to help you or not if something were to happen to the scope.

You ARE aware that a similar scenario exists with automobiles. I know from experience that both Toyota and BMW will not honor the warranty if the vehicle is not purchased in the country that warranty is being sought in.

As others have stated, it is NOT NF that is the problem. It is the fact that NF scopes are ITAR controlled and unless NF can prove the scope was exported under an export license they have no recourse should US customs seize the scope for export scrutiny.
