Has anyone else noticed what a horrible nightmare it is to fit custom after market parts to the SAM .45'S. Most of these parts drop in other .45's with a bit of fitting but not the Sam's. On my 2 Sam's their frame parts are undersize and so is the frame openings at least on my two guns. No more Sam's for me. A Norc is far easier to custom build then the Sam's that I got. For $200.00 and some Fusion custom parts my Norc works like my USA made .45's. This is what I have found with my Sam's anyways.

I get it about fitting the parts but the Sam's need a whole lot of frame fitting work where my other 1911's did not need half as much, just sayin.

They are tight guns, held to really tight tolerances with everything hand fit with no slop. This is the way a 1911 SHOULD come from the factory. Not sure why that's a negative?

they are a tight gun indeed. NO wiggle room for any after market parts at all. been there done that on a Sam. This is not putting the Sam down.....mine was super accurate, nice trigger, but dam it was ZERO clearance.

I did finally get the Sam done and it is not to bad. Not use to so much fitting but tight tolerance they are. Guess I got use to the slop of the Norcs lol..

my gunsmith noticed, he has told me in no uncertain terms that he will never work on another one because of the machining being so far out of spec, its easier and cheaper for him to build someone a custom gun than. stupid things he had never seen before like the disconnector cut in the slide being way out to lunch, among a giant list of other things

SA GI Milspec parts drop in. I had a nightmare after my SAM safety bent, also ordered a flat mainspring, got a arched one.
Trying to find one that drops in... YEAH.

Yes fit the part to frame you are right. Had to fit sear to frame and it was real hard. Yes again as tight is much better then loose. Learn something every day as I had no idea Sam's were so tight as to tolerance. Thanks again guys for the heads up. I thought it was just my gun.

I had major issues with my SAM, but replaced the sear, disco, sear spring and grip safety all with matching take off of a SA Milspec GI and fitting in no issue, Dropped right in.

Yikes, didn't know this about SAM and have been thinking of getting one or a 1911 in general. Not sure if I'm looking for another hobby build gun or something out of box - any recommendations for something economical middle ground that is great out of box and can be a hobby horse / custom build?

i had no issues with mine.
i put on some Dlask parts, no more fitting then anything ive done with my Norc's

at the end of the day my SAM goes to the range 100 times more then my Norc's
its still a much nicer and tighter gun.

Found the same thing when I fitted all new parts to my SAM. My nork was a peice of cake, and it surprised me that the sam what so much tighter. It took a lot more time and effort and a hell of a lot of cursing. But I came out with a lot more knowledge, and an extreamly tight pistol. It's unbelievable how tight this thing is after I finished.

So what I see is that 1911's are all made to different specs and require custom fitting to run? sounds like an amazing design that's ultra reliable.

You forgot to mention the trigger.
How is a guy going to perfect his trigger pull with a perfect trigger?
Until you've mastered the glock trigger you will never know what a proper trigger pull requires! Sure you might be getting good groups with a 1911 and it might shoot exactly where you put the front sight, but that's just a heavy gun and a great trigger hiding all your mistakes....... :)

Trigger doesn't hide anything on both my 1911s. I got one that shoots to par of a fixed barrel revolver. Id take my smooth 2# trigger and my tight group un reliable gun over a Glock, because HEY just a range gun. I can shoot a glock faster then a 1911, but wont be as accurate because 1911 have the best feeling in your hand.
