Wondering if anyone had their 10/22 or any .22 for that matter, setup so that they can investigate outside at night with their rifle in hand.

I ask cause skunks, raccoons, and foxes seem to like going around my chicken coop at night, and I'm wondering how I can setup my rifle to deal with these pests.

Yep, another thread said it's illegal to even discharge a firearm after dark in AB. Even for pest control.

If it's the same here, screw em, I ain't gonna go after a fox eating my chickens with an ax just cause johnny law says it's illegal to shoot after dark.

If it is illegal though, consider this thread as hypothetical.

poison works or just trap the little buggers and shoot em in the morning
according to the law here you are alowed to protect your livestock so one law might override the other

A spotlight or flashlight with a red lens will illuminate but not scare away the dog type predators. Coyote hunters in the U.S. use scoped rifles with red lensed spot lights to get their game.

CB shorts are quieter than CB longs, for whatever reason, I've found.

Manually loaded into the 10/22 they work great. Add the available VQ 22 short mag, and POP, manually load, POP goodness. Very quiet out of a 11.5" barrel, out of a 18" + barrel and they are sub pellet gun noise.

i had a skunk bother us, spraying hay- feed for the animals. He suffered from lead poisioning. Fortunately, i have a scope on my .223 and it was a near full moon, so i had no problem seeing him , and dispatching him safely. Call your MNR office, and ask for the okay. If your worried about noise, use the CCI CB they are quiet but won't cycle a second round due to low pressures.

crout, you beat me, I was just going to mention it. Here is what friend of mine using for racoon hunting at night

Oh i know I can hunt at night, with a special license and all, I just don't know what setup I need to be efficient at hunting/pest control at night.

Only idea I came up with so far is a red dot sight should let me aim after dark.

you can get night vision scopes, don't know how well they work.
Maybe a glowing reticle scope for low light?
