Being the owner of numerous optics,it's been my good fortune to finally have had some dealings with the Nikon service people!Due to yet another CANADA POST F.....up.Sent my Nikon back to Ontario for a replacement, when it arrived in Ontario it mysteriously vanished, after loose n my s..t with Canpost,I had called n spoke with Travis from Nikon, the next morning Nikon, honoured my word and is sending me a replacement for the Canpost F....up.Besides having one of the best mid to high end scopes around, the Nikon customer relations,IS OVER THE TOP!!!

After not being blown away by the quality of the Prostaff II rifle scope, I saw there was more stock at the local store, checked out a Prostaff 5 and the glass is excellent for my eyes. Extremely clear and good colour. I saw there was a 2.5-10x40 being listed as a model choice, that would probably be perfect for me.

My eyes are tricky finding a scope that will have the reticle and the subject being sharp, it seems that the Prostaff 5 has something about it that works with my high index eyeglasses. There was a Trijicon right beside it and I couldn't see as well with it. With my High Index glasses, once I turn up the magnification too high, I lose my field of view. Anything over 10x is pretty useless to me.

I must say that the Burris Fullfield II is also a good choice for me, just a hair less clear than the Prostaff 5... but very good for the money. There was a Monarch right beside it and I couldn't see much of a difference in the store between the two.

Amigo,I don't understand where your Coming from! How did you turn me talking about the best custom service I had ever received into your not happy with the Prostaff II?

I'm really starting to lean towards Nikon optics. I recently bought a prostaff 5 and then shortly after a monarch 3. I'm glad to hear their warranty dept is easy to deal with if I ever need it.

"Nikon all the way" means what? I stated I like the Prostaff 5 line. Almost every optic company has good customer service... these are made for pennies on the dollar, marked up to the moon and back - when you break it, it's cheaper for them to send you a new one than fix it.

Brownells sent me new mags when my package was lost in Chicago, no questions asked.

Kind of difficult reading your run-on sentence, but I was praising Nikon as well - if you actually read what I wrote. It's good to have a good customer service policy, it's part of the deal as well.

Prostaff 5, 2.5-10x40 is on sale for $269 @ Cabelas ($100 off, w/free shipping). Seems like a screaming deal to me for pretty good glass.

I was about to buy a Nikon Prostaff II 3-9X40mm Pro Target EFR AO for a Savage 93R17 but then saw that.. hmmmm...

Prostaff II to 5 is a big jump in glass quality, according to my eyeballs. As for the EFR AO, I don't know. I like the 2.5X as being a low magnification as a start, looked through a 3.5-14x40 P.5 and really liked it in the store. Nice sharp glass, when the Prostaff II wasn't sharp to my eyes at all. Then again, my vision through a scope is problematic due to my glasses.

$269 is a good deal for a decent scope (there's a coupon code for free shipping as well). Even cheaper than the Burris I was also interested in, the Fullfield II's glass wasn't as sharp as the Nikon P.5.

Cabelas had the Prostaff II, 3-9x40 for $179 last month.

I am sold on the AO for rimfires with my Leupold on a 22, but I am wondering if 2.5-10 will offer a broad enough low-high range that AO may not be needed on a 17HMR. Either way Nikon is slowly pulling me back from Leupold on value.

I just ordered the Nikon Prostaff 5, 2.5-10x40. I liked the clarity in the store when I looked at the higher magnification model, so I think I'll be pleased by this one. Magnification range a little larger than the classic hunting scope, so I think it should fit most uses, at not a huge price tag. As the OP mentioned, their warranty is also supposed to be very good.

I just bought a prostaff 5 and I'm just curious an what specifically is covered by the warranty. I know it says manufacturers defect but what does that include?

I ended up ordering the same. There's a couple rigs that could use it so I figured I can't go wrong with a great deal.

I have a couple 3 PS 5'S,Pretty much covered on everything! It's a no BS Warranty, unlike Leupold,I ended up with a US Leu,only to find out I wasn't covered for anything, even though it wore the Leupold name, what a bunch a crap!I had 10 or 11 Leu's and got rid a the hole works, they were a great scope, but P..S poor warranty. Not to ruffle anyones feathers,so save it,thx,it was my personal experience.

I have several Nikon optics..... they have never given me issue, which is much more important than a warranty to me...... (and Nikon has a great warranty I have never needed)

I still prefer high end zeiss and leupold scopes for clarity etc, but Nikon makes a solid product at a great price point.....

The nikons I have are all prostaff, and I am seriously considering trying a monarch on a rifle I hold near and dear....

Very impressed with my 2.5-10x40 Prostaff 5. Just opened the package and went outside to check out the neighbourhood (in the dark, street lights only). Very clear glass for this price point. Supremely happy right now. Even at the $370 regular price, I think it's a very good value.

I have 2 Nikon Monarch scopes, a 1.5-4.5x20mm and a 4-16x42mm. Very good clarity and brightness. Quality for what I think are reasonable prices.

Two things, the "warranty" as described by Canadian law is anything that the manufacturer would be at fault for. Meaning loose fittings, poor workmanship, etc etc. We also have a "No Fault" policy, which means that even if something that went wrong wasn't Nikon's fault we will either repair or replace the product as best we can. This policy has become more or less industry standard in the hunting world, however know that if something does go wrong with any Nikon item we do the work in Canada (Mississauga) and we try to have it done in 7-10 business days plus shipping.

However as a few people have posted here and numerous other threads, reliability is more important than any warranty and not having an item when you need it is more detrimental then the world's greatest warranty could ever offer.

Why can't Nikon offer different reticles??? Those circles drive me nuts.
