Hey guys, im wondering if anyone has had any experience with the nikon buckmaster 4-12x40. Im new to hunting and have an old .303 british that i would like to mount a scope on. I was wondering if this would be a suitable scope for the rifle.

Thanks

I don't know about the 4-12x but I have a 6-18x and have been blown away by the value. The glass is very clear and bright for the price, as good as Sightron to my eye but of course can't compare to Nightforce, S&B, etc. The tracking of the scope has been the biggest surprise in that it has been accurate and reliable.

I think about scopes in terms of how they will be used rather than the type of rifle it will be used on. In this case, it's a good scope with a simple reticle and side parallax adjustment. I'd use it for target shooting or for hunting from a blind.

I'm pleased with mine, I'd leave it set on 4x and only turn it up if taking a longer shot. Seems like a good value to me. If you haven't already purchased the scope Redfield revolutions are another solid contender for high value.

I have a Nikon prostaff 4x12 power on my no.4 LE which is my deer gun currently, I like it. The magnification suits my hunting area and the glass is great for the price of the optic imho. It's my second Nikon scope and third Nikon product, have a range finder as well.

buckmasters are awesome scopes for the price, 4-12x40 is more than enough magnification. fyi cabelas has the Prostaff 3-9x40 for $179 right now, which makes it cheaper than the buckmaster and its got better light transmission which is arguably more important that the extra 3x more magnification. The app nikon has for their BDC reticles is great as well, takes out all the guess work.

My son and brotherinlaw both got the Nikon buck master in 4-12x40 both of them printed one hole groups at 100yrds with savage axis's in .223 yesterday. We also verified the BDC and spot on app out to 200yrd it was "spot on". Seems like a great scope for the money and has a lifetime warranty not sure you could go wrong?

Prostaff has better light transmission than the Buckmaster?

So youre saying this one http://www.cabelas.ca/product/32154/nikon-prostaff-riflescopes would be suitable for my .303?

If that's the case I'd try and figure out what mount or bases it was D&T'd for if possible, might save you some work and money. Also if it's already D&T'd then the damage is done and you might as well scope it.
