I recently bought a Tikka T3 Hunter that came with a Nikon Buckmaster. I have a pile of Canadian Tire money and was thinking about upgrading to a Burris Droptine. Both scopes are 3-9. I am a huge fan of the Burris Fullfield 2 scopes so thought the Droptine may be a good option. I know very little about the Nikon other than it look to be a less expensive scope. Is this a worthwhile upgrade? How do the 2 scopes compare?

I've never owned a buckmaster but have had prostaffs and monarchs, I personally don't think a droptine would be an upgrade. If you just want something new get another fullfield or I wouldn't be scared to put a monarch on it even though nikon isn't producing scopes anymore. May find a great deal on one.

Twice the price based on crappy tire prices? Did you look at what other retailers were selling them for? Every other retailer I checked didn't have stock but was pricing them just over $200 (the fact they didn't have stock tells me either they don't sell and everyone stopped bringing them in, or they're an old model).

Just guessing, but it sounds like a pretty horizontal move to me. I'd look to step it up a bit more, get a vortex Diamondback, leupold vx1, another fullfield, etc. At least at that price point you know you'll be stepping up in quality and they have some resale value.

The older buckmaster scopes were pretty good. A step above the prostaff but below the monarch. I haven't used a drop time. I'd do a bit more research before changing it out.

Yeah doing a bit more research and thinking your right its not the right move.
You mentioned the Diamondback, I have a few of them and they are ok but they are definitely not my favorite. I would take a fullfield II over that any day. Something with the eye relief just doesn't seem right for me.

What is a used Nikon buckmaster 4-12x40 worth in 90% condition? I have the option buying one on a rifle I am interested in but am not familiar with Nikon models.
