I'd like to try one of the mid-level Mildot Nikons. Both lines are available with the mildot, the Buckmaster costs less and has side focus, the Monarch is a bit more, and has AO on the forward barrel.

Can anyone offer any thoughts on the two lines? I'd like to have the side focus, but wonder if the glass etc is better enough on the Monarch line to forego the sidefocus and pay a bit more as well.

Any thoughts on the two lines?

Thank-you.

I curently have a buckmaster 4.5-14x40 SF and I am very pleased with it. I find it very good value for the money.

Nikon is comming out with a Monarch 4-16x42 SF with a mildot reticle. I am seriously considering purchasing one when they are available, hopefully sometime inthe next few weeks. It's a bit more money than the Buckmaster but it has a much wider power range 4-16. The only thing I dont like is that there is only 40 MOA of adjustment. I guess a tapered base will be in order. I hope this helps.
