Never owned a Nikon or Weaver product. Looking for a low power scope for hunting big game
I would approach it a little different with these two scopes.
Weaver is tough to find in a brick/mortar dealer in Canada now - they package tons of scopes on Savage's etc, but try and find a dealer. Hard to find dealer might equate to "tough to get service" if you need it - maybe not, but....
Nikon does make fine glass and the Monarch is their better line. Starting this year Nikon has added a "no fault warranty" so even if you drop your rifle out a tree stand and smash the scope they will "repair or replace" free of charge - tough to beat. Plus, every dealer and their dog can deal with Nikon.
I like to handle both scopes side by side when I'm trying to decide between Scope A, B, or C. With the Weaver I just can't do that.
(and I ended up buying a Burris when I wanted a Nikon (after doing all the on-line research for a scope) - when I looked through both of them, plus a couple others with similar features and price point, the Burris, "for me" was the better scope - so still would have been happy with the Nikon, but only if I had never did the side by side comparison - and just because "Bob" loves the Nightsite Super Scope doesn't mean you will even tolerate it - first hand comparison is important with optics)
what kind of rifle and caliber will it be for?
does the kind reticle matter for you?
It's because of this Nikon has the edge. Weavers are also high value with the right line, in this case I think it's going to depend on what the OP intends to use it on and for what style of shooting. OP seeing both of these in person with reticles / glass weight etc... will help you make the best call and save you money in the long run if you make the wrong choice.
then i will go with a nikon and a german 4a ...
