Looking for new glass for my coyote rig - Savage 16 in .223. Vortex Viper in 4-12x40 and Nikon Monarch 3 in 4-16x42 are the current front runners. What are the feels one way or the other?

Anything else I might also consider in/around this price bracket?

Nikon , hands down
I own the Monarch 3 , 4-16x42 Nplex (7mm rem mag) and my hunting partner has the same scope with the BDC recticle
We both looked at vortex and based on what we saw in reviews and comments on 4 firearms forums, user reviews on youtube ect.... We decided the best warranty was one we didn't need. We also looked thru the scopes and hands down, Nikon.
Once I bought my scope, I box tested it with excellent results. Then I set it up with Nikon's Spot On app......

I think many folks overlook Nikon, I know I did for many years. I'd say so far, best Hunting optic I've purchased for under 1000.00 hands down

Ding, ding, ding...thank you for that very informative review. Warranty, reliability and support. It's what were all about. :)

Wow, this is an interesting thread. I'll look into Nikon... the warranty is the first thing I look for, and won't even consider a scope that doesn't have a no-questions-asked warranty. Then I look at glass and repeatability, but I lean heavily on reviews at that point.

Also, the Nikon Monarch scope bodies are quite soft.

Torquing Talleys or Warne's to the specified torques for each indents the metal, where it never has on my Leupolds.

Mind you, that same torque on a Redfield by Leupold leaves twisted garbage...
