What are people's thoughts about it?

I would like to put it on a Savage Mark II 22LR heavy barrel and just have fun with it doing casual target practice and occasional hunting. Bass Pro NOTL has them for $189 CAD 3-9 x 40 mm model.) and I just looked through one today. Sharp, clear, bright, well made, etc. I just wonder if I will commit to the BDC reticle. I was thinking of getting the 3-9 x 40 mm model.

Cabelas will price match to it as well (as long as a near by store has it in store, they will call to check so make sure before hand...). I would expect bass pro to do the same.

I put the original version of the nikon prostaff bdc rimfire 3-9x40 on a new 10/22 for the other half 3 or 4 years ago.
Just finished putting the version 2 of the same on a friends old 10/22.

I like them. Price is affordable, they work, seems clear enough to me. Pick a zero distance, ammo, etc, then print off the BDC chart (I printed one for the 9x (for reaching out) and one at the 5 or 6 which ever it was that gave me reasonable numbers to remember for the BDC.

Keep in mind I expect these to get fairly babied, live in the safe most of their life, and when they are out very limited bouncing around on a quad, I don't foresee them ever being bush carried, etc. (just based on the people they were for) Hence I also had no problem not spending top dollar. I'm not saying they might not take the abuse (I have no idea), but would expect a Leopold to withstand more abuse(obviously).

Ya a nice Leopold on there would be great. But cost allot more.
You mention hunting, if its anything serious maybe worth spending the extra change on a higher end scope if its too heavy in your pocket?

I have the 3-9x40 on a .22 bolt action, I hunt with it and target shoot with it. It’s a great scope for the price, I have the target reticle and an adjustable objective. I wish I had the bdc reticle ow that I’m hunting with it more, 3x9 is a good balance for target and hunting use. If it was strictly a target rifle for me I’d go with the 4-12, great glass for the price.

I looked at the Nikon, couldn't make myself love the reticle with the donuts under it, even though the glass was great.

Bought the Leupold instead for a hundred or so more dollars.

FWIW, I was looking at the 2-7 x 33 in both, IIRC, as well as the 3x9 from both makers for a rimfire.

I am also trying to decide if I like the reticle donuts too ... The glass seems clear and sharp and the price is real good. The reticle on the Nikon is what is holding me back from buying it. I am sitting on the fence on whether I can learn to like it ... probably not.

Did you get the Leupold VX-Freedom Rimfire 3-9x40 for about $350? https://www.leupold.com/scopes/rifle-scopes/vx-freedom-rimfire-3-9x40

I would really like to get the Leupold scope but it is on back order at Cabela's and Bass Pro would have to special order it and the main distribution centre does not have any stock. Perhaps there is another online store that would have it?

I wasn’t sure on the bdc reticle at looking through one but enjoy it now, I have a couple different prostaff’s with it now, it works as well in my experience. To each their own though, I was looking through a friends now Bushnell with a ranging reticle and it was really busy I thought.

I thought about it and I can get used to the reticle for the Prostaff so I just bought one online for a great price. I always can replace it in the future with a higher-end scope if I ever felt the need and sell the Prostaff. The quality of the Prostaff image is quite good, especially for the price and for my occasional recreational use of it.

I found it cluttered looking while looking through it in the shop the first few times I checked it out, once I was out at the range or hunting in the bush it all seems to fade out of focus while I’m focused on my target or animal and the crosshair or corresponding circle.

I have had the first model for about 4 years. Very solid scope but little larger than the Leupold Rim fire line. The clarity is outstanding and for that reason I put up with the goofy reticle. The turets are good but adjustments are only 1/2 in per click at 100 yards so not ideal for super accurate target shooting but fine for hunting. Very good value overall.

Bought the Freedom 2-7 x 33. Good fit on my 22.

If the Nikon had a plain cross hair, I'd have been on it like a fat kid on a plate of fries. Nice glass, great price. Not interested in the supposed benefits of the donuts.

I ended up buying one on Amazon for $155 CAD with free shipping this week. It came in two days. Really can not loose at that price.

It is a great rimfire scope for the price and even with my reservations on the reticle ... It is not too bad .. I can get used to it. I wanted to cheaply get decent glass for the 22 rifle that I have and this accomplishes that. It has all the other pluses that have been posted ... and yes it will not compare with the build quality of a Leupold (etched glass reticle, all metal, Argon/Krypton gas filled, made in America, etc.) ... but it is still quite good and looks like all the money is in the glass ... which matters the most. This scope will not need to deal with recoil or bad weather.

It looks good enough ... although I had to laugh at ABS plastic turret caps ... :)

You can still find them in stock here and there, search Prostaff rimfire ii target EFR 3-9x40. Amazon.ca has them for around $229Cad, has a reg crosshair and an adjustable objective.

That is the EFR 3-9x32 AO for 229 CAD.

The 40 mm Nikon EFR objective one 368 CAD ... might as well by the Leupold VX-Freedom Rimfire (MODEL : 3-9X40MM - RIMFIRE MOA) for 349 CAD at Cabelas.
