Nikon Scopes, and question about magnification.

I am looking at the Nikon Monarch UCC, 6.5-20x44 AO, Bullet Drop Compensator Reticle, Matte Black

What does the 6.5-20x44 mean?

I want to be able to shoot to 600 meters, so high magnification is what I want.
I think its 6.4 to 20 x magnification, but dont know what the 44 means.
And is this enough magnification for 600 meters? I like alot of magnification too.

And whats the bullet drop compensator?

Or should I look for a mildot one? and how do I use a mildot properly?



Also I know I can not buy Nikon scopes in Canada, and that I cant order them. But if I bought one in the states and brought it home with me in my carry on and just paid the gst on it would that be ok? Or even if I shipped it to myself wrapped in birthday wrap and then brown paper? or even in my camera case, would they just overlook it as I often go to the states with 4 or 5 lenses a couple flashes, etc. so its a pretty busy case.


EDIT, that scope listed above is 444 USD, so about 530 CDN give or take.

The 6.5 -20 is the magnification the 44 is the size of the objective lense. I would think that is enough mag for 600m unless you are trying to shoot house flys. The BDC rectile has a serise of circles under the cross hair to provide more aiming points. The lower the circle the farther out the zero.

You can buy Nikon scopes in Canada P&D, SIR, and some others carry them. If you buy one in the US no problems bring back as long as it is not equiped with a mildot rectile.

As far as using a mildot just google it and read away.
 
Is Mildot banned in Canada or something? Thats what I was looking for on a scope with no luck. Maybe this is why?!?!
 
You can buy mildot reticles in Canada, companies in the US just can't ship them to Canada without a special permit.
Try P&d in edmonton, great shop.
